Disney+'s Ahsoka: Release Date & Story Details | Screen Rant

As part of the exciting expansion of the Star Wars universe in the wake of the sequel trilogy, new Ahsoka series is coming to Disney+ starring Rosario Dawson. Anakin Skywalker's Padawan during the Clone Wars has been a key figure in the animated storytelling pocked of Star Wars. As she cements her successful transition to live-action, Lucasfilm and character creator Dave Filoni will continue her story on the small screen via a new show.

Officially making her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano provided pertinent information about Baby Yoda, whose real is Grogu. While she didn't take the Child with her to train unlike Din Djarin's (Pedro Pascal) planned, she set the clan of two on a new path that would help Baby Yoda determine his future. Ahsoka may have served her purpose in terms of The Mandalorian's narrative, but that doesn't mean that she's going to simply fade into obscurity. Ahsoka's episode titled "The Jedi" weirdly feels like a backdoor pilot for her own project, and not long after that, Lucasfilm confirmed that she is indeed spearheading a new show.

Alongside the long-gestating Obi-Wan Kenobi show and new additions like Rogue Squadron and Lando, Ahsoka will form one of the most exciting founding stones of a new era of Star Wars content focused on expanding the universe that could potentially look to Legends lore the same way The Mandalorian has embraced it. Here's everything that is so far known about Disney+'s Ahsoka.

When Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy appeared at Disney Investor Day to talk about the future of space opera and other projects in development from the studio like the next Indiana Jones movie, she discussed 10 new projects for Star Wars alone. Given the limited time, she could only reveal so much about each project. For the Ahsoka TV series, Kennedy didn't share any other detail than just confirming that it's in the works. In conjunction with that, she also debuted the show's logo which could still change over time.

Ahsoka currently has no release date and it's understandable why Lucasfilm would hold off announcing this considering the uncertainty of the times due to varying factors including the coronavirus pandemic. That said, if production can finally be back at a normal rate, it's possible that the series can hit Disney+ sometime in 2022, either following the Obi-Wan Kenobi show or The Mandalorian season 3.

It's worth noting that the Ahsoka spin-off series was long-rumored before she even made her The Mandalorian debut. Reports claim that it will feature Star Wars Rebels characters Hera, Zeb, and the Ghost's trusted droid, Chopper continuing their endeavor to locate the missing Ezra Bridger. This tracks given that the last chronological appearance of Ahsoka before she encountered Din and Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian.

Aside from helping Mando better understand Grogu, his past, and potential future, the ongoing Star Wars show also revealed that the former Jedi Togruta is on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn who jumped to hyperspace with Ezra at the end of Star Wars Rebels. Since the Ahsoka show will be set around the same time as The Mandalorian, its narrative will more likely revolve around her pursuit of the Chiss tactician who seems to be cooking something evil that could be separate from what Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) is doing. This could also be the connection between the Dawson-led show and another upcoming Star Wars series, Rangers of the New Republic.

So far, Rosario Dawson is the only cast member confirmed for the Ahsoka series, but assuming that the show does revolve around her search for the villain, casting for live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn is imminent. Depending on when Lucasfilm plans on beginning production for the Disney+ project, it's possible that they're already quietly looking at their options for the part. The fan-favorite bad guy isn't the only animated character that Ahsoka can bring to live-action. Since her pursuit of Grand Admiral Thrawn could be connected to her previous efforts to find Ezra, the show might also introduce live-action versions of him and Sabine Wren.
