Game Of Thrones: 5 Christmas Movies House Lannister Would Love (& 5 They Would Hate)

House Lannister is one of the more complicated families in Game of Thrones. They are often viewed as the villains of the series, but fans have cheered for some of the members such as Tyrion and Jamie. Given how difficult it is the figure out if you should like them or hate them, determining which Christmas movies they might like is a very tricky task.

While it's hard to imagine most of the Lannisters ever getting into the Christmas spirit, there are some aspects of the holiday classics they might enjoy. Of course, there are also more than a few holiday movies that would certainly not sit right with House Lannister.

10 Love: Christmas With The Kranks (2004)

In the Christmas comedy Christmas with the Kranks, Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis play a married couple whose adult daughter is unable to come home for the holidays. Seeing an opportunity to avoid all the Christmas noise and mayhem, they decide not to celebrate at all despite their neighbors' insistence.

This feels like exactly what the Lannisters would want to do for Christmas. They would not go in for all the festivities and community fun. They would rather shut themselves off from the pleading people around them and pretend like none of it is happening.

9 Hate: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)

There are many toxic relationships within the Lannister family. Some family members violently despise each other while others like each other way too much. Having the whole family under one roof for the holidays would likely be a nightmare for the Lannisters.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is the epitome of that nightmare come to life. As the Griswolds try to have a lovely and quaint Christmas, they are bombarded with rude, obnoxious family members, from the nasty cousins to the spoiled kids.

8 Love: Elf (2003)

Tyrion Lannister is certainly the most likable of all the Lannisters, mostly because he hates most of his family. However, what Tyrion really wants is acceptance from his cruel and cold father Tywin, who seems to resent having to even acknowledge Tyrion as his son.

For Tyrion, Elf would be a cathartic movie. Will Ferrell stars as a human who is raised by Santa's elves. When he is an adult, he goes to New York City to seek out his father. He eventually wins the heart of his gruff dad and they form a loving family.

7 Hate: A Christmas Carol (2009)

The tale of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol has been told so many times and is an essential part of the Christmas season. One of the most recent versions was from Robert Zemeckis, who used motion-capture to tell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge's Christmas redemption.

While most people see this as a heartwarming story of how a selfish man learns to care for others, the Lannisters would likely see it as a nightmare. The tale of a rich man who is convinced to give his money to the less fortunate would send chills down their spines.

6 Love: A Christmas Story (1983)

Though a box office bomb when it was released, A Christmas Story has since become a holiday favorite. It is the nostalgic story of a young boy growing up in the 1950s who dreams of getting a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas despite everyone else telling him he cannot have it.

The Lannisters are also not used to being told they cannot have something. They would really like the story of a little blonde boy who wants a dangerous toy and is spoiled enough that he actually gets it through asking enough times.

5 Hate: Fred Claus (2007)

Fred Claus is the story of two siblings. One happens to be Santa Claus and the other is his black sheep brother who has had to live in his shadow all his life. Vince Vaughn plays the title character who shows up and ruins Santa's entire well-run organization.

In the Lannister family, many of its members would see Tyrion as their own "Fred Claus." He is certainly the black sheep of the family, and whether it is true or not, they see him as a foolish "imp" who could ruin everything the Lannister family has built if they don't keep him under their thumb.

4 Love: The Night Before (2015)

Tyrion Lannister might be the best of the Lannisters, but it's still hard to imagine him really getting into the Christmas spirit. However, it is likely that he would enjoy the partying aspects of the holidays. Tyrion enjoys a good drink and letting loose, so he could really embrace those traditions.

The Night Before is an R-rated comedy that tells the story of a trio of friends who go on an insane night of partying on Christmas Eve. The hard drinking and debauchery are likely how Tyrion would like to celebrate Christmas.

3 Hate: Daddy's Home 2 (2017)

There are a lot of father issues in Game of Thrones, but Tywin Lannister might be the most imposing father figure of them all. He is quite open about his dislike of his youngest son Tyrion and even admits to wanting to kill him. But he is also very hard on his other children, never showing them even a tiny bit of affection.

Daddy's Home 2 stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as two grown men who are visited by their own fathers for the holidays. While the Lannister children would find no joy in such a story, Tywin would hate it just as much for the family aspects.

2 Love: Home Alone (1990)

In Home Alone, young Kevin McAllister is accidentally left behind while his family goes on a Christmas holiday. When a duo of burglars attempt to rob the house, Kevin chooses to protect it with a bunch of elaborate and dangerous boobytraps.

While most audiences see Kevin McAllister as an adorable little boy, Joffrey Baratheon would likely see a lot of himself in the character. He is also a temperamental blonde child who seems to find entertainment in torturing and maiming others.

1 Hate: It's A Wonderful Life (1946)

There are few movies as heartwarming as It's a Wonderful Life, so it immediately sounds like something most of the Lannisters would hate.

It is the story of George Bailey, a man who does everything he can to help out his community and those around him. He fends off the evil bank owner who wants to control the town and refuses a cushy job that will put others out of work. When George finds himself in trouble, the whole town rallies together to help him out. The Lannisters would probably root for the evil banker.
