Gran Turismo 7 developer Polyphony Digital is known for its incredible attention to detail; as such, according to the studio's CEO, no compromises will be made on this front when it comes to GT7's impending PlayStation 5 release. Since Gran Turismo first hit the market in the late 1990s, it's provided racing sim fans with nothing short of quality experience after quality experience.
The little that's been shown of Gran Turismo 7 thus far indicates Polyphony's eye for detail is at an all-time high. This is no doubt owed in large part to the new technology powering the PlayStation 5. After months of rumors, Sony announced Gran Turismo's latest entry during its PS5 games reveal event. Notably, the reveal, and additional details that followed it, showcased how the racing series' next outing will benefit from fast loading speeds, 3D audio, and increased graphical fidelity.
Polyphony CEO Kazunori Yamauchi recently spoke during the the FIA Gran Turismo Championships 2020, as relayed by Video Games Chronicle, about GT7. He specifically noted that "applying an incredible amount of attention" is integral to how Polyphony develops its products. For every project, he continued, the team pursues nothing but the best. Simply put, compromising on quality is never an option. And that remains the case as the studio continues to produce GT7 for PlayStation 5. According to Yamauchi,
"We always pursue the best at Polyphony Digital. We don’t want to make concessions on anything. We want to deliver the best to everyone. And this is no longer just my thinking, but it’s the mindset of all 200 or so staff at our company. They say in Japan that ‘divinity comes to reside in the details’ and it’s so true. How much attention you pay to the fine details, how to perfect it, hone it to perfection and applying an incredible amount of attention to this, is our production style."
Previously shared details suggest Polyphony Digital is doing its best to offer up the premier racing experience on PlayStation's latest hardware. In terms of performance, players can expect GT7 to run in 4K with ray-traced visuals at a targeted 60fps. As of writing, neither Sony nor Polyphony have announced whether the title will launch with modes that favor resolution over frame rate and vice versa.
For now, fans are still left to wonder when the racer will launch on PS5. Several weeks ago, a trailer from PlayStation featured fine print that stated Gran Turismo 7 was "anticipated" to roll out sometime in the first half of next year. However, a more recent trailer revolving around PS5's line-up of games simply noted Polyphony's impending project will hit stores in 2021. Given the studio's history with lengthy development cycles, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if the game's projected due date had been internally delayed. Besides, 2021 is looking as though it will be packed with PS5 exclusives, including Returnal on March 19.
Gran Turismo 7 is slated to hit PlayStation 5 in 2021.
