Great British Baking Show: What We Know About Runner Up Dave Friday

Dave Friday was this year's runner-up on The Great British Baking ShowHere's everything you need to know about the new father and accomplished baker.

Dave began the show on a shaky note, but he became one of the best bakers on this season of The Great British Baking Show. He particularly impressed judge Paul Hollywood, who noted that he was the most improved baker from the beginning. Dave earned the star baker title during biscuit week, and he continued to excel from there. His creative bakes often honored his pregnant girlfriend, Stacey, and their Shiba Inu. Dave's innovative flavors and colorful style earned him a place in the final. He came in second to Peter Sawkins, and ahead of third-place finisher Laura Adlington. Peter's technical precision ended up earning him the top prize, while Dave struggled in the showstopper challenge. He attempted to show the judges how much he had learned by perfecting bakes he had fallen short on throughout the competition. Unfortunately, however, some of them went wrong again.

Dave is a 30-year-old armored guard from Waterlooville in Hampshire, England, and he is now also a The Great British Baking Show superstar. He currently lives in his first home with his girlfriend Stacey and their first child, Ronnie. Stacey was pregnant throughout the ten weeks that Dave spent isolated on the set of GBBOThe couple welcomed their son while the show was airing. The usual format of the show allows the bakers to travel back and forth between their homes and the set, but this was changed this season due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic. Dave appeared on the spin-off Extra Slice after the finale aired, and proposed to Stacey during his interview. Host Jo Brand helped him set up the proposal, and after finding Stacey in the audience, Dave said, "I wanted to start the next chapter of our lives together. So, Stacey Lynn Valentine, I love you from the bottom of my heart. Will you marry me?" She of course said yes, and the couple is now happily engaged. The fans were excited for the pair, taking to social media to congratulate them.

Like the rest of the bakers on the show, Dave is self-taught. He never liked cooking but loves baking and enjoys baking at least once a week. His other interests include driving cars and listening to punk music. Dave even made a cake sculpture of Blink-182 singer Tom Delonge for one of his showstopper challenges. He also loves buying new appliances and gadgets for his kitchen.

There is clearly a lot happening for this The Great British Baking Show baker, both personally and professionally. All the best of luck to Dave and his new family!
