The head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, evidently has as much trouble knowing what the right side up on his PlayStation 5 is as a lot of other players. The PS5, Sony's brand-new, next-gen console, is selling out everywhere. The PS5 is seemingly impossible to find, just in time for the holiday season after its global release on November 19. Although two variants of the console exist in the forms of a digital-only console and a physical-compatible version, both share the same design. The PS5 is white and curvy with a black middle. This had led to plenty of conjecture about how the PS5 is intended to be positioned.
Some players prefer a horizontal placement while others favor a vertical placement. Although some players have wondered whether this affects the vital cooling fan in the console, there is no difference in performance, according to Sony. When the PS5 was initially unveiled this past summer at the console's reveal event online, players were confused about how to correctly place the system, particularly if it could be placed sideways.

As reported by Kotaku, Hulst, in a now-deleted Tweet, was caught having his PS5 upside down. In the tweet, Hulst was playing Bugsnax as his cat climbed up to scratch at the television screen. At the very bottom of the video he posted, an upside-down PlayStation 5 could be spotted. The disc drive was in the top right corner, but, if the PS5 is correctly positioned, the disc drive should be in the bottom left corner. After quickly deleting the tweet, Hulst uploaded a new video that cropped the console out of sight.
It's no surprise that many Sony fans have been confused as to what the correct placement of the PS5 is, but even the head of PlayStation Studios himself seems to have no idea. After quickly deleting the tweet, it's safe to assume that Hulst now knows. Packaged in the PlayStation 5 box is a stand that players are supposed to place the console on when the system is laid down flat.
Even the head of PlayStation Studios is bewildered by his own company's console. Although many players have found the system's design a bit confusing with its many curves and angles, it's genuinely surprising to see a PlayStation executive misunderstand his hottest new product. However, he felt confident enough to share that video on Twitter. One lesson any player can take away from this is that it's important to always read the manual. It may be dull, but at least it will likely prevent fans from getting flak on social media. I'm sure Hulst would concur after this brief PR blunder.
