Dale Earnhardt Jr. may be known mostly as NASCAR royalty, but as it turns out, he's an equally avid and tech-savvy gamer with a hefty custom PC to boot. The former driver turned NASCAR analyst revealed on Twitter that he's recently completed his first custom gaming rig, and posted a pic showing off his handiwork.
The Earnhardt family has its place as a dynasty in NASCAR history, starting with Dale Jr.'s grandfather Ralph Earnhardt, and of course, including Dale's legendary father, the late great Dale Earnhardt Sr., who died in a last lap crash in 2001's Daytona 500. Dale Jr. carved his own legacy in the NASCAR circuit as the Pied Piper of Daytona over his 24 years as a professional driver, before retiring in 2018 to work as a NASCAR analyst, team owner, and entrepreneur.
But as it turns out, racing isn't Earnhardt's only passion. He revealed today on Twitter that he also has a long-standing love of PC gaming going as far back as the mid-90s, and for the first time, built his own gaming rig after years of learning hardware by upgrading prefab systems. He posted a picture as well to show off the rig's black and red motif, which may be a tongue-in-cheek tribute to his late father's famous No. 3 car.
Not much is known about the rig's specs beyond what can be gleaned from the pic Earnhardt posted on his Twitter account - it appears it's got an EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 or 3090 graphics card, a NZXT Kraken Z73 cooling system, and a TridentZ Neo memory kit, but Earnhardt's keeping mum about the specifics (so far). But Earnhardt does go on to voice his enjoyment for IT work and how rewarding he finds it - perhaps a future venture for Dale if moonlighting as a NASCAR analyst doesn't pan out.
It isn't really surprising that Dale is a gamer - he already has a presence on Twitch for iRacing.com, for starters. It's also not surprising that he would be keener on PC gaming considering it's more technically customizable and versatile than console gaming. After all, a man who has spent the majority of his life learning the mechanical workings of highly technically complex racing cars would develop a taste for hardware. But while Dale joins Henry Cavill as a famous figure making a foray into custom PC builds, he also makes the hobby more appealing to NASCAR's more blue-collar audience.
