Rick & Morty: 10 Things Fans Want To See In Season 5

Adult Swim has come up with plenty of weird and crude series, including ones about ass detectives and Mike Tyson solving mysteries as like Mystery, Incorporated; but if there was ever a time that their inventive, brash humor actually connected with the mass public, it would've been when Rick and Morty first hit the air. The brainchild of Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, Rick and Morty explores the various, high concept adventures of its titular characters.

The series has become famous for its intricate joke writing, meta-humor, and a surprising amount of sincerity coming from an alcoholic scientist. With plenty of beloved memories having already come out of the series' first four seasons, there's plenty that the fans are looking forward to in Season 5.

10 Plenty Of Space Beth

Space Beth is essentially a new character, having lived an entire adventure separate from that of the rest of the Smith Family; but when she returned, her character and rapport fit in naturally with the rest of the group as if she never left. Comprised of all of Beth's ambitions and heart with Rick's galactic rebel background, Space Beth has instantly become a fan favorite.

While regular, mom Beth is sure to be around the series more, the fans are hoping that they'll get a little more than just a couple of one-off episodes for the galaxy's new savior and that Space Beth will be a very familiar face in Season 5.

9 Battles With The New Galactic Federation

While Rick and Morty may like to advertise itself as a comedy, it has shown on multiple occasions that it has stellar, animated action down pat. And while fight sequences with Pickle Rick, the President, and Phoenixperson are exceptional standouts, there's no comparing them to the grand battles that Rick and the family have against the Galactic Federation.

Hilarious, conceptually inventive, and filled with plenty of adventure tropes, the fights with the space police have been highlights of the series; and with a New Galactic Federation forming, Season 5 will hopefully have plenty more to show.

8 Rick Reviving Bird Person

With the kids seemingly growing away from Rick, Beth finally realizing what a jerk he can be, and Jerry being Jerry, Rick seems to be entering Season 5 with fewer allies than usual. That's what makes his upcoming arc with the cybernetic Bird Person even more enticing. Rick has lost most of his friends in the series and looks to be alienating his family.

He doesn't want to lose who may very well be his best friend in the galaxy, and he has a tough job ahead of him to both reverse the evil robotics set up by the old federation and possibly even bring him back to life.

7 Time Travel

Dan Harmon and even Rick have said on multiple occasions that, despite being a sci-fi show, the series wouldn't touch on time travel, because it's apparently stupid. With that being said, the series has technically touched on the traveling of time a couple of times within Season 4 alone.

Morty used a version of time travel in his rewind adventure in "The Vat of Acid Episode," and the comedic duo explicitly though begrudgingly used time travel to save the world in "Rattlestar Ricklactica." Given that the bell can't be unrung, Harmon might as well give in and try his hand at a proper time travel story.

6 More Jessica

Jessica was meant to be a love interest, serving, unfortunately, more as a plot device than an actual personality within her own right. While she's certainly existed in the series, there have been many complaints that the show isn't using her well enough, if at all.

For a series that has quickly evolved plenty of its characters and at least given good jokes to others, Jessica has sadly been stagnant throughout her run. It'd be nice to see more from her character in Season 5 and possibly even some evolution to her relationship with Morty or her seperate own storyline.

5 Jerry Getting A Win

With Rick slowly becoming the new Jerry of the family, it's about time for the actual Jerry to step into the limelight. For presumably ruining Beth's life and just being a spineless, incompetent coward through most of the story, Jerry has been the target of a lot of the family's ire, particularly Rick's.

However, he has shown plenty of times to be loyal to the family and does his best to do what's best for everyone. Given that he's had a tumultuous four seasons already and kind of saved the day at the end of Season 4, it'd be nice to see Jerry finally getting some respect and maybe even a new job. If not that, he should at least have a good win to solidify his evolution.

4 The Return Of Interdimensional Cable

It seems traditional at this point that Rick and Morty Season 5 will have an anthology episode of its own. The only question is how exactly will it be done. Season 3 and 4 each had a unique take on the narrative format, with Season 3 coming up with "Morty's Mind Blowers" and Season 4 bringing in the story train. As fun and inventive as those were, they didn't quite hit the same spot as Interdimensional Cable.

Far from as conceptually sound as the other two, Interdimensional Cable works well as an anthology because it just breaks down Rick and Morty's humor to its base parts and gives Justin Roiland essentially just half an hour to riff. With plenty of the show already seeming too well-curated to seem "improvisational," Season 5 may need Interdimensional Cable to bring back the series' crude years.

3 The Cthulu Episode

This doesn't necessarily need to happen in Season 5, but it does have to happen at some point. While not every aspect of the series' intro is actually explored within the show, the most drawing and consistent scene from it has been the chase scenario with Cthulu.

With the family flying away in Rick's ship and Summer tightly holding what looks like a baby Cthulu, fans have already pieced together a pretty coherent backstory for the scene. Season 5 could finally give people some closure by finally filling in the gaps to the classic scene.

2 Rick's Past

Seasons have danced around the subject in the past, but Season 5 seems like the prime time to finally explore the depth of Rick's past. Fans already know that Rick fought as a galactic rebel and that he became famous for inventing interdimensional travel, but there are certain personal elements of his past that they still want to see. Namely, they want to know what happened to Rick's wife, Diane Sanchez.

In the pilot, Rick hints that she may be dead and reinforces this idea in his simulations in "The Rickshank Rickdemption." With Rick at his supposed lowest, it would be cool to have him reflect or even share what happened to her among other things in his past.

1 More Evil Morty

If Season 4 was missing anything, it was the continuation of the Evil Morty Saga. When fans last saw Evil Morty in action, he was conquering the remnants of the Citadel and getting rid of all of his political opponents. Fans were hoping to see some payoff or at least an acknowledgment of this change in Season 4, but all they got was a false tease in "Never Ricking Morty."

Fans can't go too long without some sort of narrative feed, and it's been a while since the most solid, linear story in the series has been addressed. Season 5 can really set itself apart by giving Evil Morty a strong, canonical appearance.
