Star Wars Game Announcements Possibly Teased By LucasFilm Executive

Indeed, last year’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order received heavy praise for being a long-awaited return to single-player Star Wars adventures, selling well enough that Lucasfilm and EA have already green-lit an entire series of follow-ups even as players continue to craft mods for the first game. Meanwhile, September’s Star Wars: Squadrons was hailed as a refreshing throwback to the X-Wing starfighter dogfighting simulators of old, with a recent patch bringing popular ships like the Rebel Alliance’s B-Wings and Imperial TIE Hunter into the mix. Even the initially derided Star Wars Battlefront II managed to transform itself into a genuinely enjoyable online multiplayer experience thanks to several post-release DLC updates. Now, Lucasfilm is suggesting that the best might be yet to come for gamers looking to step into the vast Star Wars galaxy.

As reported by GamesRadar, Lucasfilm Story Group creative executive Matt Martin answered a fan’s question about whether there will be more Star Wars to come with what appears to be an enthusiastic affirmation on Twitter yesterday. Martin says he hasn't “been this excited for the future of Star Wars gaming in a long time,” which is certainly a good omen, despite him not being able to shed any further light on what his company’s plans for that future may be.

This enticing hint from Lucasfilm comes right on the heels of Disney’s explosive Investor Day event last week, which provided a look at a multitude of Star Wars projects set for release over the next few years (among other Disney-owned properties like Marvel and Pixar). While no new video games were revealed, fans were treated to the announcement of several Disney+ spin-off shows detailing the adventures of fan-favorite characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano, as well as a new film centered around the fabled Rogue Squadron of video game and novel fame helmed by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.

While Matt Martin’s cryptic post doesn’t give any specific details about what new Star Wars games his company is currently working on, the fact that he sounds so excited about it should be welcome news for fans. While the most likely bet would be sequels for recent titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Squadrons, Lucasfilm may have a few entirely new games up its sleeve in the coming years. After all, anything is possible in the world of Star Wars, and it seems like players are going to be re-entering the Galaxy Far, Far Away sooner than they had anticipated.
