The Midnight Sky Cast & Character Guide | Screen Rant

The Midnight Sky cast is led by George Clooney, who also directs the film. Based on Lily Brooks-Dalton's 2016 novel Good Morning, Midnight, the 2020 Netflix film follows a scientist who tries to warn U.S. astronauts about major trouble on Earth. The Midnight Sky was written by Mark L. Smith, who previously wrote The RevenantThe Hitman's Bodyguard, and Overlord.

Set in February 2049, The Midnight Sky begins three weeks after an unidentified apocalyptic event on Earth. As scientists flee the Barbeau Observatory at the Arctic Circle, their renowned colleague Augustine Lofthouse - who is dying from terminal cancer - decides to stay and spend his final days working on an important mission. He attempts to communicate with the vessel Aether and its five U.S. astronauts, who led a two-year mission to find life on one of Jupiter's moon, K-23, and are now returning home without any knowledge about "the event" on Earth. Augustine's life becomes complicated when a young girl appears at the observatory and doesn't explain why.
