Venom And 9 Previous Movie Villains Who Should Return For MCU’s Spider-Man 3

The superhero landscape is entering uncharted territory with the introduction of the Spider-Verse in live-action films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to bring multiple universes together with the third Spider-Man movie - something that is setting up to be a feast for fans as it has been suggested that many characters seen in previous movies could make an appearance.

Since the web-slinger has had many friends and foes in the live-action and animated movies, the possibilities for a character to return are endless. With Doctor Octopus and Electro confirmed, the movie should continue to roll with bringing former villains into the mix. Ideally, this should start with Venom and leave room for several other villains to make their mark.

10 Venom

Over the years, some aspects of Spider-Man 3 have aged well. Unfortunately, Venom isn’t one of them, as he’s much-maligned to this day. However, the MCU can fix this mistake by bringing the villain back.

If there is a chance that the Venom film character can also appear, it would be a mouth-watering opportunity for fans to see two versions of the same character sharing the screen. The Spider-Man 3 Venom can truly play the monstrous foil it was supposed to since the MCU Spider-Man isn’t as tough in personality as Sam Raimi’s version.

9 Sandman

Despite being very underused in Spider-Man 3, Sandman is considered to be one of Spider-Man’s greatest villains. He has a very easy way to be incorporated in the story, with Sandman possibly arriving in the MCU to escape the crimes from his universe or they could show his status after Spider-Man 3.

Sandman doesn’t even need to be a villain either, seeing as he redeemed himself by the end of Spider-Man 3. He could be used as an ally or just be one of the characters visited when venturing into the Sam Raimi Spider-Man universe.

8 Green Goblin

Among all the antagonists seen in live-action, Green Goblin is considered to be the one most similar to the comic books. His madness will be a treat to see in the MCU, which has never had a villain as maniacal as Sam Raimi’s Green Goblin.

Since Doctor Octopus is returning - despite being killed off in Raimi's version - the writers should also have this Green Goblin in contention too. After all, he is still the archnemesis of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. And if the rumors about Maguire's return are true, then it would be interesting to see the two foes come face-to-face again.

7 Rhino

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 pretty much sucked as a movie, but it did have a good enough climax. This series has remained unresolved since the last shot was of Spider-Man fighting Rhino, which is something that fans wouldn’t have mind seeing unfold.

This Rhino was also a very impressionable man, so it’s not a stretch to imagine him being recruited by the MCU villains to do his bidding. While there wasn’t as much development for this character as there could have been, it does give them a good opportunity for this movie to flesh his character out.

6 Green Goblin (Harry Osborn)

It wasn’t all bad in The Amazing Spider-Man series but for all the good there was, there were a couple of low points. The 'Harry Osborn Green Goblin' falls under this, which is a shame since he didn’t need to be such a rushed villain.

There was still enough intrigue left in his condition and motivations to warrant another appearance, and it would be cool to see this Green Goblin in tandem with the Sam Raimi version. Also, his youthful style would make for a good dynamic with the MCU Spider-Man since they both have similar energy.

5 Vulture

This villain’s appearance seemed like a cinch for Spider-Man: Far From Home, yet ended up being left out entirely. While he did give Spider-Man a solid final fight in Homecoming, there was a measure of regret that could have brought about further characterization.

If the writers don't want to go down the 'redemptive arc' then there is a possibility that they could reignite the feud between him and the web-slinger since it’s because of him that Vulture is sitting in prison. He’s set to appear in Morbius as well, so appearing in the MCU's newest Spider-Man could make him a character that bridges the two series together.

4 Lizard

Many felt that the Lizard should have been presented as a straight-up bad guy rather instead of giving him a sympathetic, humane backstory like The Amazing Spider-Man did. His reappearance in the MCU could give writers a chance to re-establish him as a pure villain.

Lizard could be shown going fully unhinged and relishing his turn as a monstrous being. Freed from the needless sympathy angle, this villain has the chops to be an all-out foe who can give any version of Spider-Man a hard time.

3 Kingpin

This Kingpin is the one that was seen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. What’s interesting about the possibility of seeing him in the MCU Spider-Man movie is that it will be the first appearance of an animated character in live-action form.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has already looked into the backdrop of the multiverse, meaning this Kingpin will have no issue accustoming himself to this angle. Fisk has yet to make an appearance in any of the MCU live-action movies so why not introduce the one who already hates Spider-Man’s guts?

2 Symbiotes

The Venom movie introduced a variety of symbiotes that had landed on Earth in order to find a way to use humans as a food resource. While only a couple of them have been explored, the rest can be used to introduce the concept of symbiotes to the MCU.

These parasitic creatures could be the same ones from the Venom universe, who will now have an entirely new world to prey upon. It can even open up a symbiote storyline for the MCU Spider-Man, which will be awesome to see since the symbiote’s influence can unleash his darker side.

1 Mysterio

Without a doubt, the villain fans want to see most is the antagonist of Spider-Man: Far From Home. He’s easily one of the best live-action villains to star in the franchise and his chemistry with Tom Holland was off the charts.

He seemingly died at the end of the film, but given his knack for creating illusions, it’s more than likely that Mysterio is still out there. If the dying scenario is permanent, there is still nothing stopping Mysterio from returning through pre-recorded illusions to antagonize Spider-Man from beyond the grave.
