Some superheroes prefer to work on their own because they don't play well with others. Some join superhero teams since they believe there's strength in numbers. And then there are those who choose the best of both worlds and have a sidekick - or more than one. They still play on their own, aren't bound by a team's rules, but they're not alone.
The Arrowverse has plenty of heroes who ended up with sidekicks. They welcomed it sometimes but also opposed the idea other times. Either way, a superhero works better with a sidekick since even established superheroes need someone's help from time to time.
10 Gary Green
Gary originally started out as comic relief, a grateful source of jokes. But he got more space later, and even though he didn't become one of the main characters, he proved he was useful and clever (albeit also slightly naïve and prone to making mistakes). Gary started learning magic under Constantine's tutelage, and he also helped his boss Ava Sharpe on multiple occasions - officially making him a sidekick not just to one, but to two characters!
9 Ralph Dibny
It takes a while for Ralph Dibny to become a hero in his own right. Mostly because he used to stand on the bad side of law and was also rather selfish and lazy. But once Ralph gets his powers and works for himself, he becomes a great addition to the team Flash. Ralph's powers save the day more than once and he's a friend to Caitlin and helps Killer Frost integrate into society.
8 Speedy
Thea Queen used to be a spoiled young girl, but she turned things around when she trained with her biological father Malcolm Merlyn. Merlyn taught Thea how to fight, she went back home and joined her brother and other superheroes. Thea wasn't as skilled at hand-to-hand combat as others but still did her part in protecting the city. She gave up the superhero gig in the end, though, and decided to lead a more normal life.
7 Luke Fox
It's easy to forget Luke's importance for the Arrowverse since Batwoman has so far aired just one season. But even the bat-themed vigilante Kate Kane needs her right hand, someone who would be the voice in her ear while she goes on her adventures.
Luke is one of the smartest characters on the show, the one who provides Kate with useful equipment she needs for her missions.
6 Roy Harper
Just like all Arrowverse heroes, Roy Harper also had better and worse moments. Roy struggled with controlling his anger which meant he was volatile and lashed out from time to time. He also had trouble following instructions. But at the same time, he helped the team fight and win on multiple occasions, and he even took the blame and pretended to be the Green Arrow so that Oliver wouldn't have to go to prison.
5 Felicity Smoak
Unlike most people on this list, Felicity Smoak rarely ever engaged in physical combat. Her main strength was her intelligence - which Felicity inherited from her father (who was a criminal). Felicity was excellent at computer work and hacking. She monitored the team's progress when they went out in the field and made sure they had their doors open and were aware of how many enemies they were about to face.
4 Caitlin Snow
One of the few women on this list, Caitlin is another important member of the team Flash. And not only thanks to her ice powers as Killer Frost, but also thanks to her medical knowledge and other expertise.
Caitlin is there to patch her team members up when they have a problem or are facing an unexpected medical emergency. She's also a good friend, despite all the bad things that had happened to her.
3 Cisco Ramon
It might be a bit of a stretch to call Cisco a sidekick - since he was a superhero as well for some time when he used the name "Vibe". But nowadays, Cisco is back to doing what he always liked the best - using his brain, and technical skills as well as inventions for saving the day. Cisco doesn't always agree with Barry or what he's doing but he helped the scarlet speedster more times than both of them could probably count.
2 Alex Danvers
Enthusiasm can help when somebody doesn't have the right set of skills - but being able to fight and strategize is even more useful. Alex had worked hard to get the necessary knowledge and level of fitness she needs for doing her job properly. All of that played in her favor when she helped her adoptive sister Kara fight her enemies, many of whom were of extraterrestrial origin.
1 John Diggle
John Diggle is one of the best-established sidekicks in the Arrowverse. He's been with Oliver Queen since the first season. And even though he and Oliver didn't always get along, Diggle continued fighting for what he believed was right. John might not be such a good fighter as Oliver but his military experience, connection to A.R.G.U.S., and his loyalty more than makeup for it. He also gives good life advice to Oliver who opens up more to people as a result.
