The split between former The Bachelor star Peter Weber and his girlfriend, Kelley Flanagan, allegedly had a lot to do with Peter's mother, Barb. For fans who watched Peter's season, the news of his meddling mom doesn't come as a surprise.
Peter's mom has been known to be a little too involved in his relationships. When Peter broke off his engagement with Hannah Ann Sluss to pursue a relationship with runner-up Madison Prewett, Barb was not happy about his decision. Her disapproval, along with other complications, made it difficult for Peter and Madison to pursue a relationship in earnest. Now, it seems Barb was way too involved in her son's third Bachelor Nation relationship.
Peter announced he and Kelley broke up on New Year's Eve after only eight months of dating. "Kelley is someone I will always have a special love for," he wrote in a statement on Instagram. "These moments in life always hurt, but in my opinion that shows you it was worth the time you spent together. Thank you Kelley." Kelley followed suit and wrote her own statement on the social media platform three days later. She spoke about how the former couple is in "two different stages" of their lives and saw "their future paths differently," reported Cosmopolitan. According to a recent article from ET, Barb may have had a lot to do with the demise of Peter and Kelley's relationship. The move to New York City "was the final straw in some ongoing issues in their relationship; the biggest of which was that they were not on the same page about how they approached relationships," a source told the publication. Kelley needed Peter to grow up, and she wasn't getting what she wanted out of him.
This is where Barb's meddling came into play and was reportedly a "major issue" in the couple's growing relationship. Sources revealed Barb "was very involved and expected to be a major priority within Peter and Kelley’s relationship...she wanted to be Peter’s focus." Kelley did not want to have to compete with her boyfriend's mother for his attention. Still, it seems the couple managed to stay on good terms with each other, as Peter left a red heart emoji under her breakup statement on Instagram.
This is not the first time Barb has interfered in one of Peter's relationships. During Peter's finale episode of The Bachelor, Barb made history with her emotional moments and her appearance on the After the Final Rose special. Barb strongly disapproved of Peter breaking up with Hannah Ann to pursue a relationship with Madison. When Peter and Madison announced they decided to part ways just a few days after the finale, Peter insisted his mother had nothing to do with the breakup. Barb may have been too involved with Peter and Kelley's relationship, but she was rooting for the couple. She even wrote a comment under Peter's statement saying how her heart aches for both of them and that Kelley will always have a piece of their hearts. If the rumors are true, Peter needs to immediately have a chat with his mother about boundaries between her and any future girlfriends.
The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
