Hailee Steinfeld Excited Kate Bishop Hawkeye Casting No Longer Secret

Hawkeye star Hailee Steinfeld is thrilled she doesn't have to keep her Kate Bishop casting a secret anymore. Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton will get his first ever solo project with Hawkeye, a Disney+ series slated to arrive later this year. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the series will dive into Clint's backstory for the first time within the MCU, and it already looks to be pulling from the comics in many different ways. Hawkeye will also mark the MCU debut of Kate Bishop, the Young Avenger who picks up the bow and arrow during a stretch of time where Clint is dead.

Though Kate's role in Hawkeye has been known for some time, it's only been recently that fans discovered who will portray her. Oscar nominee Steinfeld had been fans' top pick for a long time, but there were conflicting accounts about whether or not she was in the running. Finally, when Hawkeye began filming in late 2020, fans learned Steinfeld really will be the MCU's Kate. Marvel boss Kevin Feige later confirmed it during Disney's Investor Day.

Since her confirmation, Steinfeld has finally been able to open up about playing Kate Bishop. In a new interview with Fandom to discuss season 2 of her Apple TV+ series Dickinson, Steinfeld shared how thrilled she is about being able to talk about her role, as it's hard keeping it a secret. "It’s amazing, my god, to finally be able to confirm! It’s such an honor to be playing this role. I’m so, so excited about it," Steinfeld said. She then went on to explain how much of a relief it's been to finally dive into Hawkeye, particularly since COVID has complicated productions. Steinfeld said:

“It felt so wonderful to be back at work. I feel so grateful. It’s been a very crazy year of not knowing if that was gonna happen for a while. I’m so happy to be back at work and playing this character. It’s gonna be really fun. I’m excited for people to see it… I’m excited to see it!”

Until Marvel confirms a casting announcement, actors are unable to publicly comment on their roles. This happened recently with Tatiana Maslany, who will play the lead on Disney+ series She-Hulk. Though Maslany's casting was widely reported (and even commented on by other MCU stars), the actress shot down the story in an interview. Then, Feige named Maslany as the MCU's She-Hulk during Investor Day.

With that in mind, Steinfeld's excitement is understandable. Getting cast in the MCU is a big deal, and one would surely like to yell about it on the top of their lungs. Unfortunately, they have to keep everything hush hush for a time. It's a good thing it pays off in the end, as seen with Steinfeld's enthusiasm. After all the speculation and questioning, it's a relief to finally have confirmation that Steinfeld will star in Hawkeye alongside Renner. It's also probably safe to say fans are just as excited as Steinfeld to see what Hawkeye has in store; all will be revealed later this year.
