Star Wars isn't done just yet. With The Mandalorian proving to be a huge hit, attention is starting to turn to the release of Kenobi - which is currently rumored to release in 2021. Not much is known about Obi-Wan in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, besides the fact he changes his name and takes refuge on the planet of Tatooine, and fans are eagerly looking forward to what Disney has in store, especially with Hayden Christensen confirmed to be returning as Darth Vader.
But as everyone looks ahead to the release of the TV series, what are some unanswered questions everyone has that could be resolved?
10 Did He Find Love?
Love is forbidden for a Jedi, something that's made clear throughout both the original and prequel trilogies. Obi-Wan, unlike his apprentice Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, manages to stick to these rules. However, he does have a close relationship with Duchess Satine Kryze during the Clone Wars, with the ruler of Mandalore confessing her love for Kenobi shortly before her death.
Obi-Wan was genuinely torn up when she died, and the intensity of their friendship suggests he harbored deep feeling of affection for Satine. Therefore, the Jedi finding love in the aftermath of Order 66 can't be ruled out. With no Jedi Masters around to enforce this rule, who would exactly blame him?
9 Will Qui-Gon Appear?
Most people don't expect Kenobi to be romantic - but getting a glimpse of Qui-Gon Jinn is possible. Jinn was murdered by Darth Maul at the end of The Phantom Menace and, according to the book From A Certain Point Of View, trained Obi-Wan as a force ghost. The Tatooine outcast asks his old master for wise words of wisdom as he attempts to stick to his goal of protecting Luke from harm.
Liam Neeson has been out of the Hollywood spotlight in recent years, yet, speaking to Collider earlier in the year, acted coy over a potential return by saying: "I heard they did a film of Harrison [Ford]'s character, Han Solo, and that there was a bit of trouble with that. What do you think? Are Star Wars fans finished with it?"
8 Will Yoda Appear?
It would definitely make sense if Yoda was to be involved in Kenobi, with the Jedi Master also in exile during the timeline. He himself fled to Dagobah after failing to beat Emperor Palpatine during a ferocious lightsaber duel on Naboo, and it's presumed he never left.
However, Yoda is definitely powerful enough to conduct force training from afar. He and Kenobi could reach out to the force in unison in order to communicate, bridging their minds together in order to plan the Empire's downfall. Frank Oz did come back for The Last Jedi, so this isn't entirely out of the question.
7 Will Darth Maul Appear?
Darth Maul was presumed dead after The Phantom Menace but, with fans wanting him back, George Lucas decided to grant them their wish. He's since become an iconic Star Wars villain, acting as a primary antagonist during both The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels - before he's killed by Kenobi on the planet of Tatooine during the latter series.
With the movie taking place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, it means Maul is out there during this time period. Viewers could see the Sith Lord engage his enemy in lightsaber combat in live action, even if neither of them would die during the battle. Maul's popularity is so high that the character coming back once again can't be ruled out either.
6 Will He Leave Tatooine?
For years, ever since A New Hope, it's been assumed that Kenobi spent the entirety of his time living on Tatooine after the events of Order 66. After all, this is where he fights Darth Maul during Rebels, takes refuge after the Jedi Purge and also where he saves the life of Luke Skywalker, kickstarting the story in the original trilogy.
However, 10 years is a long time to stay in one place - especially for somebody who loves adventure as much as Obi-Wan. Therefore, it's possible the TV show could show us multiple locations from the galaxy, much like how the Mandalorian has done. That's proved to be a winning ticket for Disney so following that same blueprint could certainly pay off.
5 If He Did, Who Protected Luke?
Kenobi only kills Maul in Rebels because the Sith Lord susses him out, realizing he's only on Tatooine because he's protecting somebody fans know to be Luke, the Chosen One destined to bring balance to the force. Consequently, if he leaves the sandy planet, it's highly unlikely he'd leave Luke without somebody there to protect him.
So who could that be? It's possible Disney will introduce a new character, somebody who can serve as an ally to the Jedi Knight during his exile. However, Ahsoka Tano could potentially be involved - while fellow Jedi Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, and Quinlan Vos are other possibilities. Oh and Cal Kestis, who are introduced in the 2019 video game Star Wars: Fallen Order.
4 Does He Force Communicate With Darth Vader?
Kenobi could potentially use the force to communicate with Yoda and Qui-Gon. But it wouldn't be surprising to see him and Darth Vader contacting each other via this way, especially with Christensen returning to the role nearly two decades after his last appearance.
Vader would be on a mission to hunt Kenobi down, and using the force would make that easier. The Sith Lord used this tactic when trying to sway Luke Skywalker to the dark side during the original trilogy, and Force bonds were a constant theme of Rey and Kylo Ren's relationship during The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
3 Will Darth Vader And Kenobi Fight Again?
Fans have been treated to two lightsaber battles involving Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi so far. The first takes place in A New Hope on board the first Death Star, while the second occurs in Revenge of the Sith on the fiery planet of Mustafar. However, both Kathleen Kennedy and Ewen McGregor have hinted there will be another fight on the small screen - despite the fact it could mean altering the current canon.
First, Kennedy said there would be the 'rematch of the century' which would take quite some doing given their duel in ROTS is the longest in the entire saga. And McGregor then admitted he couldn't wait to have 'another swing' at Hayden - in another big indication viewers will see the pair locking horns again.
2 Will He Kill Commander Cody?
Vader doesn't appear to be the only villain who will be complicating Obi-Wan's life. Reports have also claimed that Temuera Morrison, who recently reprised his role as Boba Fett in The Mandalorian, will be involved again as Commander Cody. Cody was a big ally to Kenobi during The Clone Wars but, like other Clone troopers, turned on the Jedi because of Emperor Palpatine and Order 66.
Cody doesn't appear during the original or sequel trilogy, so it's possible his pursuit of Kenobi won't have the payoff he's searching for. Kenobi isn't a bloodthirsty murderer but, if his life is on the line, he could turn on his old friend. That would be pretty emotional given all the pair have gone through over the years.
1 Why The Name Ben?
Obi-Wan during the prequels is called Obi-Wan. During the original trilogy, however, he goes by the name of Ben to make Vader and Palpatine's mission of finding him all the more difficult.
So why Ben? Obviously, he might just have liked the name but it's hard not to wonder if Disney will give it a more significant origin. It's a trivial question in the grand scheme of things - but one fans would like answered nonetheless.
