Old School RuneScape Will Appear On Steam In February

Old School Runescape will be making an appearance on Steam in February. The consistently popular MMORPG is finally rearing its head on the highly-trafficked online game store Steam next month to compete for sales with its sibling, Runescape. This is another instance of the Runescape family of games expanding or adapting to the industry in recent years as the franchise hits its 20th anniversary.

Runescape is a true free-to-play MMORPG that was originally released by Jagex in 2001. The game has gone through three iterations, currently on the third, of updates and expansions. The game first gained popularity as a wide-open and free to play MMO that could be played on just about anything with an internet connection. The iconic fantasy adventure saw the arrival of 1.2 million new players in 2020 alone and the fan-requested Old School Runescape has seen a sizable spike in heroes as well.

In an article posted by Rock Paper Shotgun, it's been announced that Old School Runescape will be joining its modern sibling in the Steam store on February 24th. Both versions of the game are available on both PC and Mobile platforms while allowing players to carry progress from device-to-device as well as allowing Mobile players to adventure alongside anyone playing on PC. The arrival of the game on Steam shows that Jagax thinks it's game is here to stay.

Runescape is an unsung titan amongst a plethora of other more mainstream MMOs such as World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Jagax brags that the game is "always on" and easy to play. The game is exceptionally accessible both financially and through hardware making it available to a wide player base that might be scared off by the subscription fees that the previously mentioned games commonly require. While the low quality of graphics was a concern for many years, the game was massively overhauled in recent years bringing it to the modern age of video games.

This year marks Runescape's 20th birthday, and developer Jagax is not letting the event glide by quietly. It was announced earlier this month that there will be multiple events and expansions being released into the game this year to mark the momentous milestone. Year-long storylines and a string of epic quests are just a few features heading the game's way. Jagax boasts that there is no better time jump in to the world of Runescape as plenty of content is coming to the MMORPG in the coming year and beyond.

  2. A TikTok user joov_yt uses one of rsgoldfast these graphical upgrade mods. This allows Skyrim to look more like RuneScape's classic MMORPG. The "Terrible Textures - Weak Computers" mod is used by joov_yt in the TikTok clip. This mod replaces every texture within the game using ridiculously small files. Joov has added RuneScape-style fonts to RS gold his video. He mimicked chat behavior from the title for nostalgia.
