A host of familiar Pixar characters from hit animated films like Toy Story and The Incredibles are on display in the first trailer for Disney+’s new series Pixar Popcorn. The new stories bring some of the most recent characters in the lucrative Pixar family back for viewers’ pleasure, adding yet another dimension to Disney’s popular streaming service.
Now only a few weeks into 2021, Disney is already making good on what can only be called an ambitious production schedule. The previous year certainly wasn’t an easy one for anyone, but as it came to an end, Disney announced that it would release a whopping 61 productions over the course of the next three years. With nine of these releases scheduled to be animated series’, fans of Disney animation will likely revel in the fact that the first three of these productions will arrive in 2021. Exactly what can be expected has already been detailed to a certain extent, and each new series that will arrive on Disney+ over the course of the next few years is shaping up to be just the sort of programming that Disney fans will love.
As the first trailer for Disney+’s Pixar Popcorn arrives from Pixar’s official Twitter account, it’s clear that the new series will offer the return of some of Pixar’s most beloved characters, from hit film franchises like Toy Story, The Incredibles, Cars, and more. Though these bite-sized adventures may not be the same as the feature films audiences are used to seeing from the likes of Buzz Lightyear or Lightning McQueen, the trailer offers a pretty strong argument that Pixar fans aren’t going to be disappointed with this latest effort:
The new series will contain eight episodes and kick off on Disney+ on January 22. Being the animation powerhouse that it is, Disney likely doesn’t have too much to worry about in terms of competition over programming like Pixar Popcorn as well as its other upcoming series’. That being said, however, HBO Max has already found considerable success with its revamped Looney Tunes Cartoons series. The second season of that is set to begin the day before Pixar Popcorn arrives, and this could certainly offer the Mouse House some healthy competition. Although its characters haven’t been around as long as the likes of Bugs Bunny and friends, Pixar does have years of experience with highly successful film franchises. This provides just the sort of built-in fanbase that practically makes Pixar Popcon a guaranteed winner.
Over the course of its extensive lifespan, Disney has made a name for itself as the preeminent source of animated productions. In recent years, Disney has evolved into an entertainment juggernaut – not just in terms of animation but in everything from Star Wars to The Simpsons. And while not every Disney production is a guaranteed winner, a series like Pixar Popcorn has a lot to offer. At the very least, it will keep fans busy while Disney continues to build up its film and television offerings.
