Pokémon Direct Coming On Pokémon Day 2021 Says Trusted Leaker

A trusted leaker in the Pokémon community claims that a Pokémon Direct will take place next month on Pokémon Day and that new video games and mobile games will be announced. With 2021 being the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, it wouldn't be too farfetched that Pokémon will have something big to share on February 27th.

Earlier this morning, Pokémon released a celebratory video in honor of its 25th anniversary which is similar to a video released on the franchise's 20th anniversary. The 25th-anniversary video acted as an homage to every generation of the series and announced a collaboration with musical artist Katy Perry. Outside of this, there were no other major announcements made during the video, as was the case with Pokémon's 20th-anniversary promo. However, Pokémon followed up its 20th-anniversary video with an announcement video for Pokémon Sun/Moon a month later, which is a similar time frame to today's leaked information.

After the 25th-anniversary promo video went live, a French Pokémon news website Pokékalos posted to Twitter that a Pokémon Direct will be released next month. It claimed that the Direct will contain information regarding video games, mobile games such as Pokémon Masters and GO, and other big announcements. Kelios, the webmaster for Pokékalos, also stated that the Pokémon Direct would be similar to Sun/Moon announcement in 2016 and that it will take place on Pokémon Day which is February 27th.

Leaked information or not, it should be obvious that Pokémon is planning something big for its 25th anniversary. Pokémon has made a habit of going all out to celebrate these types of milestones, and there are already a number of Pokémon titles that players know about that haven't been released yet. Last year, Pokémon announced New Pokémon Snap and Pokémon UNITE, but have yet to shed any more light on their release dates. However, Pokémon could also announce new games the community is still unaware of.

Regardless, Pokémon has a lot on its plate between two major releases, one being a sequel to one of the franchise's most beloved spin-offs. The Pokémon community has also been begging for remakes of the Diamond & Pearl games, but there haven't been any hints from Game Freak as to whether or not it is working on another mainline title. That being said, Pokémon usually doesn't wait more than two years to release another mainline title, and Pokémon: Sword & Shield was released in 2019.
