Initially coming off as a jerk of sorts — especially since she was dating the jock Steve Harrington — Nancy Wheeler slowly comes into her own as a character and wows viewers by displaying the dedication and commitment she has when trying to achieve anything.
That being said, Nancy isn't really the most direct person — either with other people or herself — which basically turns her into her own worst enemy at times.
2 Jonathan Byers — A Brave Individual; Not Very Social
Initially coming off as nothing more than a loner of sorts, it's impressive to see just how much Jonathan Byers has developed over the course of the series. Out of all the traits that he has displayed over time, his bravery and willingness to do what's right should definitely be commended.
Jonathan's social skills still need more work — something that is quite certainly a by-product of the bullying he was subjected to in school.
1 Steve Harrington — Being More Self-Aware By The Second; Self-Absorbed
There was a time when Steve Harrington was pretty much universally reviled as one of the most divisive characters on the show, in no small part due to his behavior as a jock and the manner in which he belittled people around him. However, as the seasons progressed, so did his character change.
Steve is still pretty vain and conceited by the time the third season rolled out, but there's no denying the fact that he's definitely more self-aware than before and actively working on improving himself as a person.
