Apex Legends Season 8 Launch Plagued By Lag and Connection Issues

Apex Legends is a pretty beloved free-to-play battle royale but it has been struggling to overcome some recent issues with lag. The beloved shooter from Respawn is getting slammed by its player base for a number of issues preventing the game from being remotely enjoyable but fixes should be on the way soon.

Apex Legends launched in 2019 in the wake of games like Fortnite and PUBG taking over the zeitgeist. Players responded well to it as a fresh new take on a genre that was quickly getting filled up with relatively uninspired cash grabs. The free-to-play title was a spin-off of Respawn's Titanfall series but has largely stood on its own, building on its own lore and mythos over the last few years. The game has been showered in praise as its gameplay is fluid, fun, and easy to understand, not unlike Titanfall itself. The battle royale title even features unique heroes who have various special abilities to help in combat, something few other titles have managed to do successfully. Even though games like Warzone have become more popular since then, Apex Legends is still holding its ground.

With that said, loyal fans are beginning to lose patience with the game (via Dexerto). Apex Legends' new season introduced a lot of new issues, such as error codes and infinite loading screens. Players have also noted intense lagging, causing them to fly back through walls and rubberband in combat. Apex Legends player SoaR Daltoosh labeled the issue as a "fu--ing joke" in a tweet. Others, like TSM-Albralelie, have posted videos showcasing the chaos the connection issues are causing,

Some players have noted they haven't played much of the game since the season began as the connection issues are becoming too much to bear. Respawn confirmed on Trello that it is investigating the issues and will hopefully turn up some fixes relatively soon. As of right now, there's no ETA on any fixes or patches for these glaring issues.

It likely won't take too long to fix these issues. The Division 2 also had some severe issues with its new PS5 patch but Ubisoft is already working on fixes. Given the size of these teams and the resources they likely have at their disposal, it hopefully won't take long to patch something as severe as this. After all, Respawn doesn't want to lose its Apex Legends player base. Still, it's not a good look when something like this can disrupt such a great game to such a severe degree, even if only temporarily.
