Marvel Comics has released new details and a teaser trailer for their new Heroes Reborn event coming in April, and it's been revealed that the Avengers will have never existed in an altered reality. Instead, Earth's Mightiest Heroes will be the Squadron Supreme of America, and several more heroes and elements will be changed alongside this major shift coming to the Marvel Universe. While there is some key evidence as to the villain behind it all, this may have all started with one anti-hero in particular: Wade Wilson, otherwise known as Deadpool.
Heroes Reborn will exist as a new version of an older event by the same name published 25 years ago that was spearheaded by Rob Liefeld and Jim Lee. In that original narrative, the Avengers and Fantastic Four where transported to a pocket universe and all new reality, where they were given new modernized origins and looks. However, sales were less than stellar and the heroes were soon returned back to their own 616 universe after about a year. Regardless, it seems as though Marvel is looking to take another shot at Heroes Reborn.
Deadpool's role in this massive reality-shifting event that removes the Avengers potentially started back in 2017's Secret Empire event, where Wade Wilson agreed to kill Agent Phil Coulson. However, Coulson was soon revealed as alive and well under mysterious circumstances, though his entire personality had changed. Coulson's death caused him to become disillusioned by the superheroes he had once adored. Eventually, it was revealed that the demon lord Mephisto brought Coulson back to life in exchange for his service. This led to Coulson taking leadership of the Squadron Supreme of America, and he subsequently brainwashed all of them for his lord's secret and unknown purposes. Now, Heroes Reborn could be Mephisto's endgame for the SSA, and it's all thanks to Deadpool who inadvertently got the ball rolling in the first place.
Not only does this new reality revealed in the teaser images and trailer feature the Squadron taking the place of the Avengers, but also Phil Coulson running for the office of the President of the United States. Both of those seem to be pretty big red flags indicating Mephisto is the one behind the creation of this new reality, as his known agents and pawns are being put in massive positions of power and control in this new world.
Had Deadpool refused to kill Coulson back in Secret Empire (an act he was reluctant to do anyways), perhaps Coulson's grudge and vendetta would have never manifested. As such, he might not have been as vulnerable to Mephisto's deals and manipulations. In any case, the vampire hunter Blade will apparently remember the world as it once was before Heroes Reborn, so hopefully he'll be able to restore reality back to what it once was in the Marvel Universe.
