Loki star Tom Hiddleston is greeted by his Marvel Studios castmates for his birthday. The actor has played the God of Mischief in the MCU since Kenneth Branagh's 2011 Thor as the God of Thunder's brother. Now, he is slated to headline his own Disney+ series that is expected to roll out following The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Originally introduced as a villain, playing the primary bad guy in The Avengers, Loki went through significant personal growth. Over time, he became more empathetic as his story unraveled on the screen, and while he remained mischievous, he became more of an ally to Thor than an adversary. After Thor: Ragnarok, there was a sense of optimism that the Asgardian princes would finally come together to rebuild their home on Earth. Unfortunately, Thanos caught up to them and killed Loki for his failures, not to mention an attempt to betray him at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War.
While Hiddleston was mainly involved in the Thor films, he also appeared in a string of ensemble projects such as The Avengers and Infinity War. Given this, he has worked with other Marvel actors outside of Chris Hemsworth's sub-franchise and some of them have taken to their social media accounts to send him warm wishes on his 40th birthday. Check out their posts below:
Both Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. worked with Hiddleston in the MCU through Ragnarok and The Avengers; Stan, however, has not. While both appeared in Infinity War, they didn't have the chance to share the screen since Loki and Bucky Barnes were in separate locations, and by the time Thor arrived in Wakanda, the God of Mischief was already dead. That being said, the actors have more likely crossed paths and spent some time with each other behind-the-scenes and even during other Marvel Studios functions including the 10th-anniversary photoshoot for the MCU, as well as San Diego Comic-Con 2019 where both Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were both announced. Hemsworth has yet to make a social media post — something that many are looking forward to seeing.
The God of Mischief from the main MCU timeline may be dead, but Avengers: Endgame was able to find a way to continue the character's story by sending his 2012 version on a new adventure. Loki will see its titular character jumping through various periods in history and playing an unusual character in some of them. It's worth noting that the events of the show will take place in a branched timeline, so essentially, it doesn't affect what was previously established in the MCU. This doesn't mean, however, that there's no chance for Loki to find his way into the present-day universe and potentially even interact with surviving heroes including Bucky.
