New Girl: 10 Best Things That Happened To Schmidt | ScreenRant

Schmidt was easily one of the most popular characters from New Girl. From the very beginning, he was iconic, as his personality and choice of words really stood out. Even when he was at his worst in the series, it was easy for fans to cheer for him, especially as he evolved and grew up.

Schmidt faced a decent amount of struggles in the series, so it was great when good things happened to him. In fact, some of these moments actually ended up being the most memorable for him and central to his entire story.

10 His College Friendship With Nick

In college, Schmidt showed up unannounced in Nick's dorm, much to Nick's surprise. It was a funny and wholesome moment, as the two bonded quite fast, even though Nick was understandably standoffish originally.

Schmidt looked up to Nick a lot during their friendship, and Nick was very nice to him and offered him advice when needed. It was the true beginning of perhaps the strongest friendship from the entire series.

9 His Friends Threw Him A Big 29th Birthday Party

Schmidt wanted a huge 29th birthday party, so Jess and the gang ended up throwing him a party in a unique party bus, a manually designed school bus.

The party itself was not perfect, but everyone did have a lot of fun and Schmidt was appreciative. Although his friend Benjamin almost ruined it by disrespecting everyone there, the gang had Schmidt's back. It was a big moment, as Schmidt grew closer to Jess that day.

8 His First Fling With Cece

From the very beginning of the show, Schmidt had a huge crush on Cece. However, at this point of the series, Schmidt was very cocky and not very respectful in his pursuit of her.

Shockingly, the two did start seeing each other casually. The significance of it may not have been known at the time, but this was massive because it would eventually lead to the two becoming quite serious.

7 He Left Fawn

Schmidt and Fawn's relationship was a total mess. It was apparent that Fawn used him to help her political career, which Schmidt did not necessarily dislike at first. However, he later realized he wanted more from a relationship and called it off.

This was a very huge moment from the series, as it led to Schmidt recognizing that he loved Cece. Shortly after this occurred, Schmidt shockingly proposed to Cece in one of the best scenes from the entire show.

6 He Rekindled Relationship With His Father

Schmidt's father was not present in his life. Thus, their relationship was very strained. However, once Gavin found out about Schmidt's wedding, he integrated himself back into his life.

He paid for Schmidt's wedding venue and spent more time with him in preparation for it. This was awesome to see, as it was clear that Schmidt always wanted to have a strong connection with his dad.

5 He Got Cece's Mom's Approval

Schmidt tried so hard to get the approval of Cece's mom. He even orchestrated a Bollywood dance in an attempt to show her how much Cece mattered to him. Yet, this seemed to make things worse for him, as she stated that she would not attend the wedding.

However, after he called her every week for months and told her how much he loved Cece, she realized how great he was and came to the wedding. This was a marvelous moment, as Schmidt's hard work truly was worth it.

4 He Married Cece

On his wedding day, Schmidt was stuck on a plane. It was a disaster, but he was able to attend the reception via FaceTime. However, he was unable to have the wedding at its original spot, as he ended up having to fly to Portland.

When he returned to the loft that night, the gang had prepared for the wedding ceremony to be there. It was such a beautiful moment and showed just how close they all were as friends. This very well could be labeled as his happiest moment from the show, as he finally ended up with Cece for life.

3 The End Of The D***hebag Jar

During the wedding ceremony, Nick grabbed the D***hebag Jar for the breaking of the glass. It was an awesome moment, as it symbolized just how much Schmidt had grown from his previous bad behavior.

Cece and the gang were the people who helped Schmidt become more confident in himself. He no longer was the type of person who caused a lot of trouble for both himself and others. Thus, this funny moment held so much more value than one may have assumed.

2 He Left His Job

When Schmidt left his job, it was fantastic for him. He became a stay-at-home father for Ruth, which was so precious to see. It was important for him to no longer work there, as his employers and coworkers treated him so poorly throughout the series.

When Schmidt stayed at home with Ruth, he was able to be there for all of her big childhood moments. It was sweet being able to see him be far happier than he once was, as his job was a massive reason behind his stress.

1 His Family Grew

At the end of the series, it was revealed that Schmidt not only had Ruth, but also a son named Moses. Schmidt had the chance to be the father he didn't have, and it was just a fantastic way to finish his character's story.

A truly happy ending.
