Shadow & Bone Poster Reveals First Live-Action Look At The Fold

A new poster for Netflix's upcoming series Shadow and Bone gives fans a first look at the Shadow Fold, an ominous wall of monster-inhabited darkness. The young adult fantasy show is adapted from author Leigh Bardugo's, Grisha Trilogy (the first book of which is Shadow and Bone) and her Six of Crows duology, both of which are set in the fictional Grishaverse. It follows young soldier and orphan, Alina Starkov, as she discovers her light summoning powers and joins the ranks of the Grisha, an army of magical beings, in the hopes of freeing the country from the Shadow Fold. Eric Heisserer, the Oscar-nominated scribe of Arrival, developed the project for Netflix.

Shadow and Bone's official twitter account shared a new poster as fans await the show's trailer. The poster sees Alina gazing up at the threatening Fold, while what look to be sandskiffs (ship-like vehicles) gearing up to enter the wall of darkness in the distance. The tweet is captioned, "Tomorrow we enter the fold," potentially teasing the release of more promotional images or a trailer on Friday, February 26.

While the first teaser trailer revealed little to nothing about the show, the new poster teases an epic fantasy adventure. Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in Soho) will star as Alina, and she's joined in the cast by Ben Barnes (The Punisher, Westworld), Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, and Archie Renaux. Shadow and Bone's 8-episode first season is set to premiere on Netflix April 23, 2021.
