The Empire Turned Against Vader Before Return of The Jedi

Darth Vader is out hunting his master's secrets, and not even the Empire can stop him. The Empire has hidden things from Vader and in true Vader fashion, he doesn't like it. A new preview of Darth Vader #10 shows that the Sith lord is heading to Exegol and he's taking someone along for the ride.

Darth Vader is an ongoing series written by Greg Pak with art by Raffaele Ienco, taking place between Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Issue #10 is the fifth part of the series' second arc, Into the Fire. The series focuses on the famous Sith lord, Darth Vader, as he fights against those who hid secrets from him and struggles with failing to bring his son to the dark side.

Star Wars.com has released a new preview for Darth Vader #10 showing the titular villain making a trip to Exegol to find Emperor Palpatine's secrets. After having his son hidden from him, Lord Vader is very displeased, to say the least. With the bounty hunter Ochi of Bestoon riding shotgun, Vader is prepared to take out anything in his way to find the information he seeks. This Sith lord is angry and has the skills to get what he wants.

This preview features Darth Vader facing down the Empire as it tries to stop him from going to Exegol. Ochi of Bestoon failed in his mission to kill Vader, and now Sly Moore, the Force-sensitive Umbaran working for the Emperor, is trying to finish the job. Everyone wants Vader dead, but naturally, he isn't going to go down without a fight. This preview showcases Vader doing what he does best: being a determined, tactical hothead. Sly Moore believes that sheer force will be enough to bring an end to this Sith lord, but she is in for a major awakening. Vader is more than just brute strength. He is a tactician in his own right, with the background to back it up. He's also an ace pilot in his light interceptor ready to turn enemy fire on the enemy itself.

Additionally, this series seems to be leading up to information that will bridge the original trilogy with the newest one. Ochi of Bestoon had a ship that Rey, Finn, and Poe went to locate in The Rise of Skywalker. This is the same ship that Lando and Luke tried to find after Ochi was heard bragging about knowing the location of the Emperor. On it was Ochi's blade, inscribed with runes detailing where to find the Emperor's wayfinder. The wayfinder was meant to be a key leading to Exegol, which is where Vader is now headed. This could be leading up to Ochi reaching Exegol with Vader, uncovering secrets, and having the knowledge needed to leave the knife later on, though there will presumably be a time gap between reaching Exegol and abandoning the ship. Vader and Ochi will both survive the confrontation with the Empire included in the upcoming issue's preview, but the real question is: how bad will Darth Vader make the Empire look when he succeeds?
