5 Female Star Wars Characters Who Could Take On Darth Vader (& 5 Who Definitely Couldn't)

For over forty years, the Star Wars franchise has been at the heart of pop culture conversation and has brought many brilliant things to its fans' lives. Perhaps the most significant of these is the characters, and the most synonymous with Star Wars is, of course, the true main character of the Skywalker saga, Darth Vader, one of the greatest Jedi turned Sith, as well as characters, ever.

Generally speaking, Star Wars has been a bit male-character-centric over the years. While there are some incredible female characters, some of the best in the franchise, in fact, there are not huge amounts of vastly powerful female Force users and heroes. Nevertheless, fans have been introduced to some with the potential to at least give Vader a good fight, alongside others who stand no real chance.

10 Couldn't - Luminara Unduli

Luminara Unduli is representative of every single female Jedi Master of the prequel era. As powerful as they were, as talented with a lightsaber, and as knowledgable in the Force they were, they did not match up to Vader.

Luminara's abilities were not showcased massively throughout her time, only really through a lightsaber battle with Asajj Ventress in which she was fairly unimpressive and a couple of other stints. She is the most famous of the female non-Jedi Council Jedi Masters, though, and Vader would handily deal with her like the Inquisitorius eventually did.

9 Could - Ahsoka Tano

By putting Ahsoka Tano here, it is not saying that she would beat Vader. That is no guarantee, and the odds are not in her favor given the fact she came close to dying at his hand. However, Ahsoka could match up to Vader and put up a good fight.

Unlike the likes of Luminara, who would just be overpowered to a great extent, Ahsoka, with her neutral Force standing, Jedi training, experience, and incredible skill, would put up a fight with Vader. If this fight were to take place a few years after their battle on Malachor, Ahsoka would only be more capable, and it would be another spectacular matchup.

8 Couldn't - Shaak Ti

What an anomaly of a character Shaak Ti is. She has died so many times that it is hard for fans to keep up with which one is the actual canon death. If she were to face off with Vader, it would simply lead to another death on her record.

Like Luminara was representative of all non-Jedi Council female Jedi Masters, Shaak Ti represents all those who were on the Council. The likes of Yaddle, Adi Galia, Depa Billaba, and Stass Allie would all fail against Vader just like Shaak Ti would, and that is not saying they are not powerful Jedi; it is simply a testament to Vader's strength.

7 Could - Rey

Saying Rey could take on Vader is something that will likely upset a lot of people, but the fact of the matter is if Rey can take on Palpatine, with however much help she may have had, it is ludicrous to think she would not be able to put up a fight with Vader.

If Rey were to have any chance of winning, the circumstances would have to be heavily in her favor. If she is unable to harness the power of all the Jedi, then her lightsaber skills and raw Force power would need to be refined, and even then, it is likely she would fall short. However, there are not many prominent canon female lightsaber/Force users, and if any of them could put up a challenge to Vader, it is Rey.

6 Couldn't - Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress faced off against Anakin Skywalker multiple times during The Clone Warsalways putting up a great fight and outsmarting and outmaneuvering him in some of their battles.

But she never truly beat him, though, and nobody really believed she could. If she were to somehow come up against Vader, there would be no doubt in Vader coming out victorious once again. Ventress's cunningness, intelligence, and skill simply could not match up to Vader.

5 Could - Traya

A former Jedi who fell to the Dark Side and planned the destruction of the Force itself, Darth Traya ended up becoming one of the strongest Sith to ever live in the EU, no matter the gender, and she could definitely give Vader a run for his credits.

Her apprentices Nihlus and Sion had to team up to overthrow her and still did not kill her. Her powers of manipulation, her strength in the Force, and her vast array of abilities, as well as her solid talent with a lightsaber, would make her an odd yet great match for Vader.

4 Couldn't - The Inquisitorius

When the Empire was formed, so too was the Inquisitorius, a band of elite Force-sensitive individuals trained by Vader to hunt down Jedi in the Galaxy who survived Order 66. Audiences have met a few of the female Inquisitorius in canon, and none come close to Vader.

All of the Inquisitorius feared Vader, with the Grand Inquisitor choosing death over Vader's wrath. While the Seventh and Second sisters were skilled with lightsabers and in the Force, they were nothing compared to Vader, and he could likely take them on at once and still come out alive.

3 Could - The Daughter

Introduced in the fabulous Mortis arc of The Clone Wars, the Sister is one of three Mortis Gods, being the one of the three that represents the light. While she would not wield a saber, she is undoubtedly one of the canon's strongest Force users.

Her power would likely be too much for Vader to handle if she decided to part ways with her morals and go full-out assault on the Dark Lord of the Sith. It would most definitely be an odd battle. There is a chance Vader's connection to Anakin being the Chosen One could give him an advantage, making this a fascinating fight.

2 Couldn't - Leia

Much to the joy and surprise of many fans, The Rise Of Skywalker revealed that Vader/Anakin's daughter, Leia Organa, trained with Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force, and she became a talented student with a well-established connection to the Force.

However, as naturally talented as Leia may have been, perhaps even more so than Luke was in A New Hope, she stands no chance against her father. Leia gave up that side of her life, and even if she hadn't, she was always more interested in politics, leadership, and even family, than becoming a powerful Force user.

1 Could - Abeloth

Jumping back to the well of the EU, Abeloth is the first entry on this list who you would put your money on to best Vader in a fight, as no matter his strength and ability with a lightsaber and in the Force, Abeloth is a different beast.

The Gods of Mortis were mentioned earlier, and while non-existent in canon, in the EU, Abeloth was the Mother, with her drinking from the Font of Power and bathing in the Pool of Knowledge corrupting her into becoming Abeloth. She had no issues manipulating and outpowering groups of Force users either with her telekinesis or other Force powers, and her abilities are simply insane. She transcends Jedi and Sith and would likely deal with Vader as simply as he could possibly be dealt with.
