Amazon's GameOn Is Like a Cross Between Twitch & TikTok

Amazon’s newly launched GameOn app seems to have features similar to that of both Twitch and TikTok. Amazon’s venture into the gaming industry has been multifaceted with multiple approaches to the medium. The creation of Amazon Game Studios in 2012, its purchase of Twitch in 2014 and its cloud streaming service Luna all show the interest that the shipping giant has in the industry.

In a report by Tech Crunch, the new app, which released on the Play Store in October 2020, is now available on iOS. It is entirely separate from Twitch, with its own dedicated community. Users can like, share, or record their own videos, similar to that of Amazon’s streaming giant and TikTok. The official GameOn page states that users can record their screen from anywhere between 30 seconds and five minutes. It even has a recall function that can capture the footage within that time frame.

Footage recorded on the app can be used to compete in challenges, where the victors are determined by most likes and views from other users. The app boasts support for “over 1000 of the most popular mobile games” and will continue to add support for more games. GameOn is also viewable on the web.
