New After The Final Rose host Emmanuel Acho doesn't think Chris Harrison should return to The Bachelor franchise right now. Chris announced he will temporarily be stepping down as the host of the franchise, after defending current contestant Rachael Kirkconnell's photos of her attending an Antebellum South party in 2018 during an interview with Rachel Lindsay for Extra. For now, Emmanuel will only be replacing Chris for the AFR aftershow, but there is a chance he will be hosting The Bachelorette if Chris doesn't return.
Emmanuel came into fame when he joined the NFL in 2012 but became a free agent in 2015. He now works as an analyst for Fox Sports 1 and even wrote a book called Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, which he later turned into a YouTube series that he hosts. Last month, he was announced as the temporary host of The Bachelors After The Final Rose special, where he will be interviewing Matt and his final two. Before he was announced as the host, former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay and her husband Bryan were advocating for him to be Chris' temporary replacement.
During an interview on A Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the 30-year-old spoke about his thoughts regarding the return of Chris Harrison to The Bachelor franchise. "I don’t believe in cancel culture," Emmanuel said to the talk show host. "I do believe in accountability. I think right now he is taking accountability for his actions. For every action there is an equal and opposite reacts ... [Harrison] had an action and he is currently dealing with the reaction from that." The former football player doesn't want the public to "cancel" Chris, but he no longer feels the 49-year-old is a good fit for the show.
"Should he return to that role? You have to decide what’s in the best interests of Chris Harrison? What’s in the best interest of the show and the executive producers, but also, what’s in the best interest of the cast?" the new host explained. Now that the show is committing to diversity, Emmanuel believes finding a new host is the next best step. "They had their first Black bachelor, what’s in the best interest of all three of those primary parties at play and make the decision that serves the most good," he added. As the new host of the ATFR special, Emmanuel is focusing on getting his "white brothers and sisters" to understand how different Matt's journey to love is from years' past because "his complexion and his skin color."
If Chris Harrison does not return as the host of The Bachelor franchise, it sounds like Emmanuel would make a fantastic replacement. While we haven't seen him on The Bachelor stage just yet, he seems like the next best choice. Emmanuel will bring a fresh perspective to the show with his knowledge and wisdom in systematic racism, which will hopefully push the show to become more diverse. In order to end the lack of diversity within the franchise, they must start with those who are the face of the show and behind the scenes.
