How A New Naruto Game Can Help Promote Boruto | Screen Rant

Boruto may have been at the forefront of the Naruto franchise since debuting in 2017, but it seems fans and Bandai Namco are still holding onto the nostalgia and popularity of both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. This is evident in the last three Naruto games, all released since 2017 - Naruto X Boruto: Ninja Voltage, Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes, and Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker. With Boruto: Naruto Next Generations gaining momentum and putting more focus into the story of Boruto, it may be time for Bandai Namco to fully embrace Boruto by giving him his own video game.

The bread and butter of Naruto in gaming has always been the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series, which was first released for PlayStation 2 in Japan on October 23, 2003, and internationally in 2006. The Ultimate Ninja Storm series began in 2008 on PlayStation 3 and lasted until 2017's Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Legacy, a collection of all four Ultimate Ninja Storm games, including Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road To Boruto.

The next generation of Naruto games seems to be Naruto to Boruto on consoles and Naruto X Boruto on mobile, given what has been released since Road To Boruto. While this may seem like a transition away from a Naruto-focused series, it is really just the Naruto games fans know and love with a few a Boruto characters included. There has yet to be a game that specifically focuses on Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and its cast members, such as Kawaki, Naruto’s adopted son. Fan may be skeptical of Boruto due to recent events in the manga and the amount of filler in the anime, but a new Boruto game could potentially reward loyal fans of Naruto’s son and get skeptics on the Boruto bandwagon.

Getting a Boruto game anytime soon may be unlikely, since the anime is the middle of introducing Kawaki, the manga is in the middle of business with Kara, and fans still play Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 to this day. But having a Boruto game with a story mode structured like the Ultimate Ninja games could get fans more easily acquainted with the Boruto story and its large number of characters, including Boruto’s fellow genin friends and the adult versions of everyone not named Naruto and Sasuke. If Bandai Namco does choose to create a Boruto game one day that’s similar Naruto To Boruto: Shinobi Striker or Dragon Ball Xenoverse, it could also be an opportunity for fans to fight, play as, and even train under characters such as the members of Boruto's Kara organization or the last of the Otsutsuki clan.

Lackluster manga sale numbers and anime reviews could be playing a role in why Bandai Namco has yet to pull the trigger on a Boruto-focused game. However, the future of the Naruto series might be brighter than ever. With Studio Pierrot animating Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto returning to work on the Boruto manga, fans have a lot to look forward to.

As the story of Boruto continues to play out, there's little doubt there will be a Boruto game eventually. With fan favorites changing and gaining more power, speculation, theories, and debates will likely grow. A new game could be the perfect battleground for these debates. Before Naruto and Sasuke got nerfed, they may have been the strongest shinobi of their generation, but it's only a matter of time before they meet their match, and a new hero has to step up. When that time comes, at least fans might have a new Naruto game to play as their favorite hyperactive knucklehead ninja one last time.
