Warning: contains spoilers for Iron Man #7
A new comic preview reveals that Iron Man's brand new team survived Korvac's latest attack, and they're ready for round two in Iron Man #7. While they're certainly an odd assembly of heroes, they've just been joined by Tony's best friend James Rhodes, also known as War Machine. Traveling through space to intercept Korvac and his own team of villains before they can get to Galactus' ship, Iron Man is prepared to go to extreme lengths to make sure Korvac doesn't become a god.
As revealed in previous issues, Korvac is seeking to gain the Power Cosmic from Galactus, the very same power source that made Norrin Radd the Silver Surfer. Korvac already defeated the Avengers once in Marvel's past, which means he'll no doubt become unstoppable if he gains this new energy and power, hoping to steal it from Galactus' home base known as Taa II. Because Korvac had been holding Rhodey hostage at the time, Tony couldn't risk calling high-profile teams like the Avengers or X-Men without risking War Machine's life. As a result, Stark and Hellcat secretly gathered a team of lower-tier heroes that wouldn't necessarily be on Korvac's radar such as Misty Knight, Scarlet Spider, Halcyon, Gargoyle, and Frog-Man. However, Korvac was two steps ahead, and he caused a massive explosion that seemingly killed Iron Man's new team while he took Iron Man on directly. Thankfully, Gargoyle managed to save them with a force-field, though they all took a beating (Iron Man included).
Now, the preview for Iron Man #7 from writer Christopher Cantwell with art by Cafu confirms that not only did Iron Man's team survive, but they're willing to keep fighting, pursuing Korvac in space. Furthermore, Iron Man has War Machine upgrade the power of his suit to dangerous levels, as Tony Stark is increasingly becoming desperate to stop the classic Marvel foe. Here's the preview images and synopsis for the issue from Marvel Comics:
While Iron Man's new team is still alive at the moment, it looks as though their troubles have just begun. The synopsis reveals that Iron Man will yet again be separated from his allies, forcing the team to potentially face Korvac all on their own, which doesn't bode well. In the preview pages themselves, the team is trying to figure out what a god even is in the Marvel Universe, and if that's what they'll soon be facing in the form of a cosmic Korvac.
By design, Iron Man's team is filled with some of Marvel's most under-recognized heroes, and though some of them are powerful, there's a good reason none of these heroes are A-listers. Still, here's hoping they have what it takes to bring Korvac down, or at least keep him busy long enough for Iron Man to make it back when the issue releases from Marvel Comics.
