The official release date for the upcoming League of Legends: Wild Rift beta in North America is March 29, following a new trailer. Riot announced the new mobile version of its popular MOBA, League of Legends, in Summer 2020. Smaller in scope than the PC version of the game, Wild Rift currently has about 60 champions to choose from in the beta at the time of this writing. For comparison, PC League of Legends has over 150 champions to choose from.
The first regional beta for Wild Rift started on October 27 in Southeast Asia. The game's subsequent rollout expanded to other regions over the following months as open betas before its full release. However, this did not sit well with many video game fans in North America, as many were upset the game would not reach their region until 2021. This rollout is more in-line with previous releases of modes and content for LoL.
In a new trailer on the official Wild Rift YouTube page, the release date of March 29, 2021, was revealed for the Americas. The video shows different countries throughout North and South America by showcasing famous landmarks and locales for each. Registration for the beta is available now on Google Play, the Samsung Store and the App Store.
Wild Rift is Riot's third mobile game based on LoL, with Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra preceding it. Both of these games have done well, with TFT having over 4.5 million reported downloads on mobile as of April 2020. Wild Rift already made waves last year by becoming the most downloaded app in each of its regional open beta locations just two days after release. This may be indicative of the reception the game will garner once available in the Americas.
As League of Legends continues to expand into different games, its narrative is also expanding along with it. The recent release of Viego in LoL will tie directly into the upcoming Ruined King: A League of Legends Story RPG. Other projects like the Runeterra MMORPG and the Arcane animated series will expand the narrative and most likely tie back into the MOBA. Who knows, maybe Wild Rift's success will spark ideas for a future mobile or console version of Valorant.
League of Legends: Wild Rift will enter open beta starting on March 29 in the Americas, on iOS and Android mobile devices.
