RHONY: Why The Cast Thinks Bethenny Frankel 'Orchestrated' Engagement

The cast of The Real Housewives of New York City was not celebrating Bethenny Frankel's engagement after the news was released the day the season 13 trailer dropped. After a long, eight-year battle with ex-husband Jason Hoppy, the former housewife was relieved to announce the two are officially divorced. Shortly after it was reported that her divorce was finalized, news broke that she and long-time love Paul Bernon were engaged.

The mother of one first left the Bravo franchise after three seasons shortly after marrying Jason and welcoming their daughter, Bryn, together. After two reality shows and a failed daytime talk show, Bethenny returned to RHONY for season seven and stayed on as a full-time cast member until the end of season 10. She admitted to staying on the show because she was making a decent salary, but realized that was the only aspect that was keeping her on the series. Now, Bethenny has more time to focus on her business, her daughter, and now her fiancé.

According to a source close to Page Six, the cast of RHONY was not pleased to see their former castmate announce she had finalized her divorce and got engaged on the day the season 13 trailer dropped. They believe Bethenny timed the news of her engagement to be released on the same day Bravo dropped the new season trailer. "They’re all confused why she’s still obsessed with ‘RHONY’ and would orchestrate her engagement news to come out the same time as the trailer for the show," the source shared, adding, "Bethenny is just being her petty self, but she can’t take away the cast’s happiness or how hard they worked this season during the coronavirus pandemic." According to the source, the cast of RHONY feels Bethenny was trying to steal their thunder.

Bethenny's engagement was confirmed by the publication on Tuesday, hours after they reported her divorce was finalized. She said yes to her long-term beau along with a ring valued at an estimated $1 million. However, Bethenny never confirmed the news herself. Paparazzi spotted her out in Florida rocking the massive diamond ring, confirming the engagement. Nonetheless, the women are happy with their season 13 cast. "The cast collectively feels like the show is so much better without her and that she wouldn’t have been able to navigate the serious topics of this season," the source revealed. With new full-time housewife Eboni K. Williams, RHONY will be putting race and other social justice issues at the forefront of their season.

While it has not been confirmed, it does seem likely Bethenny planned her divorce and engagement news for the day the RHONY trailer dropped on purpose. Page Six also reported the judge signed off on her divorce in January, which makes Bethenny's announcement seem more calculating. At least Bethenny didn't make the announcement the day RHONY premieres.
