Scarlet Witch’s Doctor Strange Moment Teases Her Dark Magic Future

The final scene of Marvel's WandaVision gives Wanda Maximoff her own Doctor Strange moment, while also hinting at her dark magical future as the Scarlet Witch. The series finale not only saw Wanda end the Hex around the town of Westview, but she also defeated fellow witch Agatha Harkness when she embraced her powers and origin as the Scarlet Witch. She then said goodbye to the town and the family she had created, determined to find a way to learn how to better control her abilities and the chaos magic she wields. In the finale's post-credits scene, Wanda is seen doing just that by studying magic, albeit as a dark mirror to Doctor Strange's own experience and training.

In the final post-credits scene of Marvel's WandaVision, Wanda is revealed to have gone to a remote cabin in the mountains (potentially near Wundagore Mountain from the comics), isolating herself away from the rest of civilization. While it initially seems as though Wanda is taking it easy on the porch drinking tea, and most likely processing recent events, it quickly becomes evident that much more is going on within the cabin. While Wanda may be relaxing, she's also in the back room of the cabin in her astrally projected form, studying magic from the Darkhold, the Book of the Damned that had been in Agatha's possession.

This concept of magical multitasking is something that has been seen before in the MCU in 2016's Doctor Strange. During Stephen Strange's own studies and training at Kamar-Taj, he excelled rather quickly as a gifted student with a photographic memory, allowing him to grasp complicated spells and practices at a much faster rate. Furthermore, as soon as he learned how to enter his astral form, he was then able to study even more into the evening while his physical body slept. Now, Wanda is following suit with her own astral form, though her studies will no doubt prove to be much darker than the books and powers that Doctor Strange learned.

Because Wanda is studying from the Darkhold, she'll more than likely learn all kinds of spells powered by her immense capacity for chaos magic, which could lead her down a dark and sinister path if she's not careful. Her textbook is called the Darkhold after all. While the Scarlet Witch is reported to be in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, whether or not she'll be a friend or foe to Strange is unclear. It's certainly possible that the two of them could clash, especially if something terrible is unleashed by the Scarlet Witch as was teased by Agatha in the series finale.

In any case, it's interesting to see Wanda's own magical studies and attempts to gain knowledge mirroring that of MCU's other main magic-user Doctor Strange, even if her methods are darker and no doubt a greater risk for an unknown future. As the MCU's Phase 4 continues, here's hoping Wanda has what it takes to control her chaotic power as the Scarlet Witch now that Marvel's WandaVision has concluded on Disney+.
