Shameless: 10 Characters & What Dungeons & Dragons Classes They Would Play

Shameless explores the turbulent ups and downs of the Gallagher family as they struggle to stay afloat in a run-down Chicago neighborhood. Much like the classes in Dungeons and Dragons, the main characters of Showtime's hit drama can be categorized by their talents, personal motivations, attitudes, and unique traits that drive them forward every day.

Cursed with an alcoholic father who only comes knocking when he decides that he needs something from his kids, the Gallaghers have been forced to evolve to survive, developing skills – legal and otherwise – that will keep food on their table. Some of them fit into certain classes perfectly, while others might choose their class based on the strengths that they wish that they had.

10 Fiona Gallagher: Fighter

Experts in martial arts and skilled with a broad range of weapons, Fighters are warriors. They train their bodies and their minds tirelessly to master a wide variety of fighting styles that they may need to protect themselves or the ones they love.

Fiona may not be a physical warrior, but she is a fighter. Raising her siblings by herself from a young age, she has worked multiple jobs, given up her own food, bent the law, and generally fought tooth and nail in whatever way that she had to for those kids.

9 Veronica Fisher: Ranger

Rangers are a wild type of warrior that combat threats at the edges of civilizations. Defenders of the weak, they take up arms against the monsters of the world. Often loners, they are more comfortable on their own or with a small, trusted group.

Much like a Ranger, Veronica won't go to bat for just anybody. She has her own self and babies to take care of, but she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to protecting Fiona and the Gallagher kids. She will take on monsters if it means protecting them.

8 Carl Gallagher: Barbarian

Barbarians are mighty warriors with primitive backgrounds and a passion for a good fight. According to DnDBeyond, they see clinging to modernity and civilized ways as a sign of weakness and feel most alive in the throes of combat.

Carl delights in being a bully from a young age. Drawn towards violence, he eagerly breaks his father's leg so that Frank can collect disability, and sees nothing wrong with his vicious fights at school. Though Carl does soften as he ages, he still chooses dominant career fields that involve "battle" such as the military, and eventually the police force.

7 Kevin Ball: Bard

Bards are musicians that use song and speech as a conduit for their magic. They may not be the roughest soldiers that bound into battle with the rage of a Barbarian, but they use their skills with words and tones to cast powerful spells.

Kevin Ball is one of the sweetest and funniest characters in the show. Kind and lighthearted by nature, his easygoing personality makes him both a great bartender and a good father. He can use his fists if he needs to, but he doesn't seek out fights, preferring to talk down rowdy bartenders than rush straight into a brawl.

6 Sheila Jackson: Druid

Driven by their connections to the world around them, Druids are highly empathetic and spiritual beings with a respect for animals and nature. Sheila is a bit of an odd duck, but if she had to choose a class, she just might settle on the peaceful Druid.

She enjoys the idea of spiritual connection - especially through sex - and has a longing to go out and see the world. Sheila is driven by her need to nurture but combined with her mental health struggles, her compassionate nature makes it easy for others to take advantage of her.

5 Lip Gallagher: Wizard

Wizards are the scholars of Dungeons and Dragons. While Sorcerers inherit their magical abilities from ancient bloodlines, Wizards study to achieve them. Consistently learning so that they can hone their skills, they are eager to understand the mysteries of the world.

Lip Gallagher is naturally intelligent - particularly in science and robotics - but it has not been without work. Lip continuously pushes his own limits, whether it is in a college environment, or he is quietly inventing a battle bot for a robot fighting competition.

4 Ian Gallagher: Paladin

Warriors bound by a sacred oath to protect the weak, Paladins uphold justice in the darkest reaches of the world. They stand against evil and are protectors to those that need a hero.

Ian is a good man willing to risk himself to protect others. He excelled in JROTC in hopes of one day joining the ranks of brothers in arms. He probably could have been a good soldier if not for his unchecked bipolar disorder that led him to act erratically. Later, his misguided heroic tendencies come out again when he becomes a voice to the voiceless in his "Gay Jesus" storyline.

3 Mickey Milkovich: Warlock

Powerful beings gifted with magic through pacts with mysterious beings, Warlocks are strong fighters that combine their physical strength with their magical abilities. Though they are not inherently evil, many Warlocks receive their powers through pacts with dark beings.

Mickey Milkovich grew up in a dog-eat-dog neighborhood, and he made it his goal to be the top dog. A bully, a brawler, and the occasional felon, Mickey is a typical tough guy who wouldn't have a problem making a deal with the devil if it meant protecting himself.

2 Debbie Gallagher: Cleric

Graced with magic divined from the Gods, Clerics cast spells with their God-given abilities rather than powers achieved through years of study. Noble helpers, Clerics befriend, inspire, and heal, but they will also protect if there is a threat.

Debbie has always been the little helper of her family from the very first episode. Whether she is cooking, cleaning, bandaging cuts, or making money for the family, she is a hard worker that more than pulls her weight. A born nurturer, she has always been the go-to babysitter and even opened her own daycare to help pay the family bills.

1 Frank Gallagher: Rogue

Known for using deception, thievery, and manipulation to solve their problems, Rogues rely on their smarts rather than physical strength or incredible magical abilities. A "Jack of all trades", they often have a plethora of unique skills. Not necessarily bound to morals, they do what they need to in order to survive.

Frank is a Rogue through and through. A deadbeat alcoholic that only bothers to pay any attention to his children when he needs a place to sleep or a few bucks, Frank has no shame. He will steal, cheat, and lie to his family, and he is incredibly good at it. A master manipulator, he is constantly scheming and often takes advantage of his children's love for him.
