Super Mario 64: The 10 Most Memorable Stars | ScreenRant

It is apparent that Super Mario 64 is one of the most important games in the history of the franchise. With its initial release dating back to 1996, it is clear that it has left a monstrous impact, as people still enjoy playing it at this very time. This is made clear by the fact that a remake recently hit the shelves, along with Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy, in Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

This game possesses a fantastic storyline, even if it is on the shorter side. Today's games, such as Super Mario Odyssey have far more that the player has to do to 100% it. Yet, what is so spectacular about 64 is that the vast majority of its 120 stars are extremely memorable. They have far more unique tasks, which mesh well with the fact that it progressively becomes more and more challenging.

Yet, there are a handful that truly stand out from the rest, as they are extremely entertaining to obtain.

10 Big Bob-omb on the Summit

The first star to obtain in the game, Big-Bob-omb on the Summit, is extremely memorable. This is because it is how the player is introduced to the game. Also, this boss is a massive presence, even this is his lone appearance.

The star itself also isn't necessarily the hardest, but that is to be expected with it being the first one. Nonetheless, anyone who plays this game will remember this star no matter what.

9 Footrace with Koopa the Quick

Footrace with Koopa the Quick is a very fun star in this game. It is another classic from the game, as it requires the player to race a very unrecognizable Koopa.

Racing up the mountain is a lot of fun, especially because it helps the player master the controls of this game. To beat Koopa with ease, long jumps are truly the player's best friend too. Overall, it is just an extremely entertaining star that never gets old.

8 Behind Chain Chomp's Gate

Chain Chomp's presence in Bom-omb Battlefield causes a lot of havoc with his aggressive nature. This makes obtaining his star extremely difficult for beginners, as he has no problem knocking Mario out.

To obtain the star, the player has to ground pound the post three times, while he attacks you. It is a fun final star in this level, and given the fact that Chain Chomp is impossible to ignore, it is also unforgettable.

7 The Princess's Secret Slide

The Princess's Secret Slide is one of the coolest stars in this game. It introduces the ever so popular slide stars in this game, while also allowing the player to get a lot of coins. It also does not take a life away if Mario falls off, which certainly comes in handy.

With this star being near the beginning and very fun, it is one that the vast majority of players experience as well. It may not be the most difficult of stars, but it is very important when it comes to learning the mechanics of the game.

6 Big Penguin Race

The Big Penguin Race is extremely memorable, as you face off against, well, a giant penguin. Thankfully the penguin does not attack Mario but rather challenges him to a race. It can be pretty difficult, as there are some turns that require some experienced maneuvers.

It is also fun because it allows the player to pick up a lot of coins in the process. This is important when it comes to the 100 Coin star of this level as well. However, just for the challenging race alone, it is quite fun.

5 Big Boo's Balcony

Big Boo's Balcony is definitely a star that takes a lot of practice to obtain. It offers a little bit of everything for the player. For the inexperienced player, it is a bit of a challenge, as finding Big Boo is not very easy.

Also, once the area is found, Mario has to wall jump up to the secret room and then go outside to the balcony. The fight itself also can be challenging, as there is not a lot of room. Getting the star at the end requires perfect long jumps, as it is easy to fall off the roof.

4 Stand Tall on the Four Pillars

Upon first glance, one may assume that Stand Tall on the Four Pillars is a rather boring star. Mario simply flies to each of them. However, once completing this task, the top of the pyramid opens.

From there, Mario enters and faces two giant hands in combat. This sudden twist alone makes this star so memorable. It also can be quite agitating if they capture Mario, as it instantly results in him falling off the map.

3 Mystery of the Monkey Cage

Mystery of the Monkey Cage is a very fun star in the Tall, Tall Mountain stage. It is not necessarily the most challenging of stars, as it only requires Mario to climb out the mountain, which is what the player does to obtain the star before it.

However, what makes it so entertaining is the fact that Mario has to capture the monkey from there. Once done successfully, he knocks the star out of its cage and Mario jumps down to obtain it.

2 Make Wiggler Squirm

Wiggler is one of the most interesting enemies in Mario games, as he seems to be a good guy until he is enraged. This is the case in this game, as after Mario accidentally floods his home, an intense battle commences.

Wiggler is a truly terrifying figure in this game too, as he is massive and quite aggressive. It's honestly a pretty fun star too, as successfully attacking him takes a lot of skill and overall practice.

1 The Big House in the Sky

The Big House in the Sky is definitely a star that requires perfect timing and effective jumping. For players trying it for the first time, they definitely do have some trouble.

The rainbow path is definitely one that a lot of fans remember about this game, but the extra house feature of this star is also iconic. However, it can also be extremely aggravating, as if Mario gets hit by the fireplace inside, the player is stuck in no man's land and cannot get the star.
