The Falcon & The Winter Soldier Director Wants A Season 2

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier director wants to make season 2 for Disney+. Marvel Studios is embarking on a new chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Phase 4. The new slate of projects will deliver more MCU blockbusters in the coming years, but the franchise is also expanding to the small screen like never before. As evident by WandaVision, Marvel Studios is giving established supporting characters a chance to lead their own stories. This plan will include giving Sam Wilson aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) a Disney+ series.

Fans are less than a week away from seeing the first episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The show will consist of six episodes that near an hour in length apiece and give viewers a chance to explore the titular heroes' backstories and lives like never before. While this will give Sam and Bucky more time in the spotlight, there are already some wondering about what their futures hold. Many fans want to see The Falcon and The Winter Soldier beyond the upcoming first season, and now the show's director has shared her own hope to continue the series.

Kari Skogland directed all six episodes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier for Marvel Studios and Disney+, and she's now on the press circuit to promote the series. In a new interview with The Direct, Skogland was asked if there were any story details she would like to see included in a second season. She responded by saying the first season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier included everything she wanted, but there's always room for more story, which is why she's hoping for a season 2.

I can’t even answer that because I would say there’s nothing I didn’t get to do in this one, and yet there’s so much more to do. So, let’s hope that there is a season two. I have no idea whether there will be or not, but I do know there’s always more stories to explore and more characters to have go down the rabbit hole with.

Marvel Studios hasn't announced plans for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier season 2 yet. So far, no MCU Disney+ show has received an official season 2 order, although Marvel's What If...? and Loki are among those reportedly going beyond a single season. Anthony Mackie even recently confirmed that there haven't been any discussions about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier season 2. But that doesn't mean that Skogland and fans will ultimately see the show conclude after one season. The chances of a second season could come down to how successful the first season is.

Early reactions to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier are positive, which could increase the chance of season 2 happening. Since most of the world is still waiting to see the first episode, it isn't clear how the show's ending does or does not set up where the story will go. The introduction of John Walker, the restart of the super-soldier program, Baron Zemo's return, and Falcon officially becoming Captain America could all feed into where The Falcon and The Winter Soldier could go with a season 2. Of course, it might not even be called that if it happens.
