A player in Valheim has recently forced a troll to cosplay as Thomas the Tank Engine in a hilarious build. Valheim is no stranger to tremendous builds. Since its release in early February, players have begun to erect incredible structures and useful designs to spruce up worlds. Extremely talented players recreated The Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the entire city of Whiterun from Skyrim. These builds have dropped jaws while others have revealed new techniques and strategies when building bases. A player recently designed a spiral staircase in Valheim, enabling them to create massive archery towers in order to defend their base.
Ingenuity has a special place in Valheim, giving players a better chance at surviving hoards of dangerous monsters. Incoming raids will often leave bases completely destroyed and one of the most dangerous raids finds two trolls wandering into a someone's land. The results are catastrophic unless the Vikings prepare accordingly. Trolls are an important monster to fight and defeat in Valheim, as they give players access to troll armor, a high-quality armor that surpasses leather. The issue is that they are extremely powerful and can quickly strip away a player’s health if they are not careful. There are plenty of ways to defeat a troll in Valheim, but a recent strategy has taken the cake.
Reddit user ugotdatricardo found a way to trap a troll inside a wooden structure that highly resembles a train. With its blue face sticking out of the front, the half-troll/half-structure looks nearly identical to the famous children's television character, Thomas the Tank Engine. One comment on the Reddit post humorously names the creature, Thomas the Troll Engine.
The player’s stroke of comedy genius may have also revealed a new meta for capturing and defeating trolls. It may not be the most effective method for conquering the deadly creature, but it sure seemed to work for ugotdatricardo. It's unknown whether players will actually start to use this new tactic to hunt and kill trolls, but it is an excellent demonstration of the freedom that Valheim offers players. Whether they decide to build enormous recreations of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek or simply design useful bases to call home, players will find that there are endless possibilities.
While the troll is one of the deadliest creatures in Valheim, they seem a lot less intimidating when forced to cosplay as a children’s television character. Thomas the Troll Engine may have the soul of a troll on the inside, but they definitely can’t smash bases and kill players; an occurrence that is sure to be a relief to many digital Vikings.
