Watch OnePlus 9 Pro First Look Video & What We Know So Far

OnePlus has now released a new video which included an official teaser image for the upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro smartphone. There had already been a number of leaks and speculation on what the OnePlus 9 Pro will offer, and especially in the camera department. After today's mini reveal, it now seems as though potential OnePlus 9 Pro buyers have plenty to be excited about, with at least one of the major rumors having been confirmed.

A part of the OnePlus 9 series, it was only last month when OnePlus enthusiasts received potential insight into the OnePlus 9 Pro, thanks to YouTube video leak indicating that the phone would feature a Hasselblad camera setup. Possible specs mentioned, included zoom lenses and a potential 3.3x optical zoom capability. These leaks differed from previous speculation that suggested the the OnePlus 9 Pro wouldn’t have a periscope lens.

Via the company's U.S. Twitter account, OnePlus released a video offering a sneak peek of what customers can expect with the OnePlus 9 Pro. In the video, after the moon falls from the sky and gently rolls through a city, the announcer says, “Hello, Hasselblad”. The video then features a shot of the rear of the OnePlus 9 Pro, showcasing the Hasselblad camera array. At the very end of the video, OnePlus once again confirmed an upcoming launch event on March 23. The event is due to take place virtually, at 10 A.M. EDT on the company's website.

The OnePlus Tweet confirms earlier speculation that the OnePlus 9 Pro would include a partnership with Hasselblad. It also confirms the four-camera setup from previous leaks. The noticeably curved camera setup will be located in the upper-left corner, as was seem in the previous leak. This is notable as it is a departure from the more centrally-positioned camera setup included on the OnePlus 8 Pro, making it more similar to the OnePlus 8T. In a separate blog posting, OnePlus also confirmed that the OnePlus 9 series will feature a freeform lens. According to the company, the freeform lens will help to eliminate edge distortion in ultra-wide lens pictures.

The company also announced the OnePlus 9 is seeing another return of the Lab program. This program allows community members to review products, although it will include two separate “phases” this time around. The major difference being the second phase comes with more of a focus on reviews of the camera, with OnePlus seeking “the most talented photographers” within the community. This is yet another example of the greater emphasis the company is placing on the camera abilities of its OnePlus 9 series of smartphones.
