Wonder Woman's New Odyssey Starts with Her Death | Screen Rant

Warning: contains spoilers for Wonder Woman #770

DC Comics has revealed that Wonder Woman's new odyssey starts with her death. Wonder Woman #770 is dropping Diana into Asgard, a place that seems strange for an Amazon to end up in. She'll meet new gods and heroes while trying to figure out how she ended up there.

DC's Infinite Frontier is relaunching the DC universe and Wonder Woman has a front-row seat to all the action. After being an integral part of the fight against the Dark multiverse and being the shining light in DC's Future State, the Amazon still has new dangers and adventures ahead of her. Wonder Woman has been at the forefront of DC's latest initiative, leading the latest heroes into the future. She chose to continue fighting for the good of others. Written by Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad, and Jordie Bellaire, with art by Paulina Ganucheau and Travis G. Moore, Wonder Woman #770 will show where her decisions have landed her.

Wonder Woman has died and awoken in Asgard - in the middle of a fight. No, this isn't some kind of strange crossover with Marvel, because this is DC's Asgard. This is Valhalla. The fascination with Asgard, Valhalla, and Vikings continues, but now with an Amazonian warrior thrown into the mix. Check out the preview of Diana's strange awakening:

  • What. Is. Happening?! Wonder Woman just woke up in the middle of battle, with rampaging hordes of mythological beasts bearing down on her! Not even the Princess of the Amazons can survive such an assault, but that's okay—it's just another day in Valhalla! The warriors here spend their days fighting and their nights drinking—and if they die in combat they'll be resurrected in time for the party. Strange, though, that no one seems surprised to see Wonder Woman in this crowd. It's up to Diana to find out why things are going wrong in the Sphere of the Gods—and whether it has anything to do with what landed her in the Norse afterlife.

Many aspects of this series have been seen in other stories outside of comics, but Wonder Woman has not experienced this kind of looping cycle just yet. Valhalla is the afterlife home of the bravest warriors. In Norse mythology these warriors served as some of Odin's best warriors, ready to take up fights for Asgard when necessary. Now, Wonder Woman gets to be a part of that warrior routine, though something is definitely wrong since her powers aren't working right.

The first person Diana is going to meet is Siegfried - a legendary hero. Siegfried may have been murdered by his wife in Norse mythology, but he is more well known for being a dragon slayer - a fact which he is very proud of in this preview. So far, no villain has been revealed in these previews, nor any indication of why Diana is even here to begin with. All that is revealed is that Diana is somewhere she shouldn't be, she needs to figure out why, and it has something to do with her powers suddenly being gone. Whether it has anything to do with her new acquaintance or if he will be an ally in her quest for answers is also unknown.

Perhaps some Norse gods or villains are stirring up trouble, which would definitely be a new and intriguing problem for an Amazon to deal with. Wonder Woman is most often associated with Greek mythology, so this is out of the realm of normal for her. Fans can find out more about Wonder Woman's newest journey and what troubles lie ahead when DC releases this issue Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
