PlayStation may be working with Control developer Remedy Entertainment to publish an exclusive game. Rumors indicate that this is simply an exclusive game, not that Remedy has been absorbed by PlayStation altogether, but the rumors also indicate that the game will not be a timed exclusive like other PS5 titles.
Remedy has been making deals left and right, almost becoming a free agent of the gaming industry. Recently, Epic Games signed a deal with Remedy to make more games in the Control universe, but exact details on what that means are a bit vague right now. It was recently reported that Epic had agreed to help fund Remedy's long-awaited sequel to Alan Wake. Nothing has been confirmed, but the studio is developing multiple games and has been adamant about continuing the supernatural Twin Peaks-like IP. Whether or not it'll come to consoles is unknown, but rumors seem to suggest that another Remedy game will.
According to Twitter user Shpeshal Ed (via GamingBolt), who has leaked noteworthy things like the Final Fantasy VII Remake being a PS+ title, Remedy has made a deal with PlayStation. Remedy will develop an unannounced game which will be exclusive to PlayStation. The two have partnered previously, but to a much lesser degree. Control was a PS5 PS+ game at the start of 2021 and Sony helped showcase the game when it was revealed on its E3 stage. There's clearly enough of a relationship there to allow for these talks to have happened.
The rumor continues to look likely as Claire Bromley, the global external producer at PlayStation, shared recruitment posts for Remedy. Of course, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed and some of it is much more speculative. Similar speculation happened when Red Dead Redemption 2 actor Arthur Clark shared recruitment posts for Sony Santa Monica, causing some to think he was playing Thor in God of War: Ragnarok. The actor has since stated it's a bit of a leap from sharing job postings to being cast in a lead role in the game, but he wouldn't confirm or deny anything.
Whether or not Sony is or isn't hosting Remedy is a mystery as of right now, but it wouldn't be surprising. The platform holder has been quite aggressive about getting substantial third-party exclusives on PlayStation. Sometimes it's things like getting Spider-Man in Marvel's Avengers or it's massive games like Final Fantasy XVI as PS5 exclusives. Sony recently lost one of its biggest annual exclusives with MLB The Show 21, which will release on Xbox Game Pass on day one later this month. Perhaps Sony wanted to nab one of the studios that formerly made Xbox exclusives to make up for it.
