Arrowverse: 5 Romances That Deserved More Space (5 That Got Enough)

Superhero shows aren't all about fighting and facing dangerous villains, and the Arrowverse is no exception to this rule. The shows feature a lot of romantic relationships - and sometimes, the drama of the romances overshadow the actual fights against the bad guys!

What is refreshing about the Arrowverse's approach to portraying romance is its willingness to change the source material. For example, it replaced Laurel Lance with Felicity Smoak as Oliver Queen's true love. The shows also give a lot more space to romance than some comics. However, not all couples in the Arrowverse got as much space as they deserved.

10 Deserved More Space: Moira Queen And Malcolm Merlyn (Earth-2)

Even though Moira and Malcolm had a daughter - Thea - on Earth-1, they mostly stood against each other in the end. Moira plotted to kill Malcolm as he presented a danger to her children. But on Earth-2, they were a surprisingly harmonious couple. The different version of Malcolm was a kind man who had nothing of the manipulative streak of his Earth-1 counterpart. It would have been fascinating to see more of their marriage but Arrow only barely grazed the surface of this romance.

9 Got Enough: Barry Allen And Iris West-Allen

Barry's and Iris's romance is still ongoing. But for now, they have already gotten a lot of space and character development - both as individuals and as a couple. Things weren't always smooth sailing for these two but the strength of the bond between them manages to make them work their problems out. It remains to be seen what awaits Barry and Iris in the future, but if anybody can make their relationship survive, it's these two.

8 Deserved More Space: Sara Lance And Leonard Snart

Death waits for no man, and Arrowverse is no exception to this rule. Sara and Leonard had a lot of things in common - such as their dark past, snarky sense of humor, and desire to redeem themselves. They flirted and circled around each other for the first season of Legends of Tomorrow. And even though they shared a kiss, in the end, their romance ended before it could have properly begun since Leonard sacrificed his life to save the team.

7 Got Enough: Nate Heywood And Amaya Jiwe

Nate and Amaya are one of the couples whose romance was unnecessarily long in the Arrowverse. The reason for this is that right from the start, it was clear it wouldn't lead anywhere. Amaya was due to go back to her own time in the end otherwise her children and grandchildren would be erased from existence.

But the show still thought it fit to introduce a lot of relationship drama between Nate and Amaya even though the end of their romance was always right there on the horizon.

6 Deserved More Space: Sara Lance And Alex Danvers

Sara and Alex have a lot of things in common. Both are strong women who excel at combat and are fiercely protective of their sisters. When Alex broke up with her girlfriend Maggie, she was miserable. However, Alex and Sara clicked and had a brief fling during Barry's wedding. Unfortunately, Alex freaked out and started avoiding Sara afterward. It's a pity since they could have been great together.

5 Got Enough: Oliver Queen And Laurel Lance

Oliver and Laurel are the OTP in the comics but the show decided to go in a different direction. Maybe it was because they had a rather dark past as a couple. Oliver cheated on Laurel with her sister as well as other women. They tried to rekindle their relationship after Oliver returned home but decided they worked better as friends in the end.

4 Deserved More Space: Caitlin Snow And Ronnie Raymond

Caitlin is one of the unluckiest characters in the Arrowverse when it comes to love. She lost her fiancé Ronnie and mourned him for a long time. When Ronnie came back, they got married but he soon died for real.

They cared about each other very much and were adorable together. Caitlin is a good person who deserves happiness but the Arrowverse keeps denying her success in love.

3 Got Enough: John Diggle And Lyla Michaels

John and Lyla didn't always see eye to eye because of the differences in their respective personalities. Despite that, they're one of the most stable couples in the Arrowverse. Once they rekindled their relationship, they made it work even though they faced multiple difficulties and threats. They got married and had children together. Overall, even though they no doubt still have many adventures ahead, their main story was sufficiently finished in the Arrowverse.

2 Deserved More Space: Thea Queen And Roy Harper

Thea and Roy started their relationship on shaky ground. They first met when Roy stole Thea's purse. They got together eventually but separated multiple times. When Thea's actress, Willa Holland, left Arrow in the sixth season, the show put the pin on Thea's and Roy's relationship as well. It would have been interesting to see more of their romance while they worked side by side on destroying the Lazarus Pits but at least they got engaged in the show's finale.

1 Got Enough: Oliver Queen And Felicity Smoak

One of the longest Arrowverse relationships ran for eight seasons in total. It started with Felicity's crush on Oliver but truly developed in the third season of Arrow when they confessed their feelings for each other. Oliver and Felicity had a lot of ups and downs and their relationship drama didn't sit well with some of the fans. But those who cheered on the couple were happy when Oliver and Felicity reunited in the afterlife as they got their closure this way.
