Gilmore Girls brings a lot of heart to the TV drama genre, and its fans can appreciate the moments that mean so much over the course of seven seasons. The characters go through many changes in their relationships and family lives, and viewers know the exact scenes where pivotal words are spoken or important actions are taken.
Gilmore Girls spans the whole gamut of human emotion, and many scenes are just as strong after rewatching them over and over again. What are the most heartwarming scenes throughout the show's run?
10 Logan Being There For Rory After Richard's Heart Attack
Logan does his own thing, which makes it harder for some fans to pick out his more nuanced moments. One of his most emotional scenes with Rory follows Richard Gilmore's heart attack. Logan flies in by helicopter to be with Rory during this upsetting time. He acknowledges that he needs to be with Rory above all else, which is absolutely true and shows Logan's better side in a moving way.
9 Rory's Yale Graduation
Not all of Rory's Yale scenes can be classified as heartwarming, but her graduation certainly is. She has worked through so many problems and character flaws while in college, and Rory walks across the stage with pride at the end of it all. Her whole family takes a moment to show their support and cheer Rory on, and Christopher and Lorelai are able to stand up together and clap for their daughter. It's also an important scene as fans come to the end of the final season and reflect on all the Gilmore family has been through.
8 Lane & Dave's Kiss
Before she and Zack marry, Lane has a relationship with another bandmate, Dave Rygalski. Lane and Dave are so perfect together as they get to know one another, and Mrs. Kim even approves of Dave. After Dave packs up his guitar and finishes talking to Mrs. Kim, Dave and Lane talk outside the house for a few moments and have their first kiss. Lane is shocked as Dave says goodbye, and fans are thrilled to see the two of them get together. Lane deserves all the exciting milestones in life, and this is one of them.
7 Rory's Doose's Lettuce Run
Fans have varied opinions about Dean, but he'll always be Rory Gilmore's first boyfriend. Rory's attempt to steal a good look at Dean in season one is the sweetest thing. Dressed in her Chilton uniform, she sneaks around at Doose's, converses with Miss Patty, and awkwardly makes her way to the register, where Dean rings up her head of lettuce.
Rory gets nervous at the exchange with Dean, who comments on her purchase, so she runs out of Doose's afterwards. Even though she's embarrassed, it's adorable that Rory would go to such lengths to be in the same space as her crush.
6 Richard & Emily Sharing A Dance
Richard and Emily's vow renewal in the fifth season is fraught, but there is a golden moment before the storm. Emily and Richard are glowing as they celebrate their love and share a dance to "Wedding Bell Blues." Despite the havoc Christopher will wreak at the event, it's so uplifting to see Richard and Emily glide across the dance floor. Even Luke and Lorelai join in the fun and relax for a few minutes.
5 Jess & Rory's Big Kiss
Jess and Rory's nighttime kiss in the third season isn't their first one, but it is the most wonderful of them all. The kiss occurs at a gas pump, of all places. The sweetest thing is that Rory and Jess just keep kissing and kissing. When Rory abruptly says she has to go, Jess isn't ready for her to leave. As they share one more kiss that night, it's obvious that something special continues to happen between them.
4 Emily & Rory's Stars Hollow Adventure
Emily's big day at Stars Hollow is quite special since Rory is her tour guide. There are multiple scenes of the event throughout the episode, but one of the brightest is when Rory takes Emily out for antiquing at Mrs. Kim's. There's so much for the grandmother and granddaughter to learn about one another, and their trip to Kim's Antiques shows Emily a bit more of Rory's friendship with Lane. This scene is much happier than a later one where Emily realizes that her daughter and granddaughter used to live in a potting shed.
3 Lorelai & Luke Talking About Luke's Dad
There are so many Luke and Lorelai scenes to remember, but one of the deepest is when the two of them are at the diner one night. They are discussing paint colors and redecorating, and Luke talks a bit about his father, who owned the hardware store.
When Luke talks about his dad writing an order underneath the counter, Lorelai finds the exact spot with Luke's dad's handwriting. The scene is such an intimate one between Luke and Lorelai and clearly hints at something more for their relationship.
2 Lorelai & Rory's Yale Night
Fans have their favorite scenes from Rory's Yale years, and Rory's first night at Yale is definitely one of them. After a busy move-in day, Lorelai panics and feels that she's not ready to be alone without her mom. Lorelai has had a blast helping Rory get acclimated, and it's no surprise that she agrees to spend the night with Rory in her dorm. It's one of the best mother-daughter moments of the whole show, and no one could forget the sweet sleepover scene.
1 Rory's 16th Birthday In Stars Hollow
"Rory's Birthday Parties" in season one is a great example of two sides of Rory's life. She has the Stars Hollow family she's always known, and she has the wealth and privilege of the grandparents whom she's starting to know better. The Stars Hollow Sweet 16 is one of the best scenes of the entire series because it showcases the love of the community right in the Gilmore girls' home. There's Sookie with the cake, Lorelai with the eloquent toast, and in a surprising twist, Emily and Richard join the party to celebrate their granddaughter. Rory is able to bond with them both and gives Richard some reading material in between hanging out with the rest of her guests.
