Harry Potter: 10 Polyamorous Fan Ships We Wish Were Real

The story of Harry Potter can hardly be classified as a romance, but that doesn't mean there weren't love affairs blossoming all across Hogwarts (and the rest of the Magical World.) Ron ending up with Hermione and Harry's relationship with Ginny almost seemed like a given, as they had been foreshadowed through the series.

While there aren't exactly any love triangles in the Harry Potter universe, there are quite a few triads that would make romantic sense. Leaving aside J.K. Rowling's problematic ramblings about sexuality and gender, whether in terms of her characters or real life, there were a few polyamorous relationships that could have possibly worked out.

10 Rolunille — Ron, Luna, & Neville

Although many fans had shipped Neville with Luna, the two of them marry completely different characters (Hannah Abbott and Rolf Scamander, respectively). A potential romance was teased in the movies, with Neville proclaiming feelings for her during The Battle of Hogwarts.

Maybe there is one crucial factor missing that could have created a bond between shy Neville and eccentric Luna: the bombastic firecracker that is Ron Weasley. It's not easy to think of Ron as any kind of relationship glue, seeing how he gets jealous for the smallest of reasons, but there is no need for envy when there is so much sharing going on.

9 Lily Moonstar — Lily, Remus, & Sirius

Would James Potter be alright with the love of his life in a relationship with his two best friends? Certainly not during his immature school years, but perhaps over time that could've changed. In any case, it's not like James gets a say in what Lily wants to do with her life.

Sirius and Remus are diametric opposites and are therefore able to balance themselves against each other quite well. In their friends' circle, James played the role of the mediator, so it's believable that Lily could handle the romantic aspect of things.

8 Wolfstarbucks — Remus, Sirius, & James

This triplet is far more likely than the one with Lily because these three boys had been quite intimate with each other from their very first years at Hogwarts.

Well, there's also Peter Pettigrew, but he's more of a groupie than anything else, so he doesn't count. Sirius and James are the closest of friends, but the fact that they all manifest Animagi form to chaperone Lupin during his Lycanthropic episodes indicates their willingness to die for each other and that is some strong love to break.

7 Hinuna — Harry, Ginny, & Luna

Hinuna may perhaps sound a bit strange to fans who strictly prefer the canonical set-up, but Luna's uncanny intelligence extends across the full gamut of the emotional spectrum, something that both Ginny and Harry struggle with. Her open-mindedness would go a long way.

The Potter-Weasley couple gets along swimmingly, but their similar personalities occasionally clash, generating avoidable conflicts. More importantly, this triad could have started a lot earlier in the story, because Luna would have been the first one to help Harry see that his feelings for Ginny are more than just fraternal.

6 Snackin — Snape, Sirius, & Remus

This one doesn't seem probable in the slightest, but what if their interactions had been shaped differently from the start? Sirius comes from a family known for its pure-blood pride, so it wouldn't have been shocking if he had been sorted into Slytherin. Without Sirius to link the dissimilarities shared by James and Remus, there'd be no pranksters at Hogwarts, no Marauder's Map, and, presumably, no unfortunate deaths later in life.

Like Albus and Scorpius in The Cursed Child, Severus Snape and Sirius Black might have forged a bond over their hatred of their family lives. Once this happens, it's not going to be hard to pull Remus into the vortex — someone who had always wanted nothing but someone to care for him.

5 Lugine — Luna, Ginny, & Hermione

If there was any reason that these three shouldn't be a throuple, it is dispelled by their synchronous duel against Bellatrix Lestrange at the Battle of Hogwarts.

Their efforts, while interrupted by Molly Weasley, are certainly not in vain, highlighting that Luna, Ginny, and Hermione seem to read each other's thoughts in split-second intervals. There will be no one character in this relationship who holds sway more than the other two. These are three strong ladies after all.

4 Volgrindore — Voldemort, Grindelwald, & Dumbledore

Before discussing this scenario, it's important to clarify that any relationship between these three would only begin after 1945, which is when Tom Riddle becomes an official adult. Although it's uncertain if such a coalition, romantic or otherwise, could throw the Wizarding World under these three men's ambitions, it's not implausible.

Voldemort cannot feel love, but this is claimed to be due to the side-effects of his mother's Love Potion, so it can be argued that his capacity for emotion is limited by magic. If these effects are reversible, then the solution can be reached by the two most powerful wizards in the world, Dumbledore and Grindelwald, who already had a strong bond.

3 Lunar Harmony — Luna, Hermione, & Harry

Hermione may have referred to Luna as Loony while introducing her to Harry, Ron, and Neville, but her initial faux pas is never repeated again. The two women are strong in their own ways, and they wouldn't be supporting Harry as much as sharing the burdens of being the Boy Who Lived.

Perhaps even better than Ron, who, as mentioned, is prone to fits of jealousy. Harry understands Luna in ways that Hermione never could, but this is simply for lack of trying. And Hermione is the best at trying and often succeeding.

2 Dracarrmione — Draco, Harry, & Hermione

Unlike Volgrindore, Dracarrmione wouldn't need to spend so much mental, emotional, and magical energy in establishing their throuple. It's evident that Draco, like any child would be in his situation, is trapped between the terror of becoming a Death Eater and the consequences of denying Voldemort his undying loyalty.

Harry and Hermione are the most capable people to bring Draco out of his swirling pits of despair, but that's only if he lets them in. Their relationship is going to be quite tempestuous, though.

1 The Golden Trio — Ron, Hermione, & Harry

The aura of intimacy that surrounds the Golden Trio is impregnable — nobody outside this sacred circle of three can ever feel as completely at ease as Ron, Harry, and Hermione do with each other. One of the formative events that directs the growth of this relationship takes place when Hermione is petrified in The Chamber of Secrets and the other two prove exactly how much she means to them.

There are no secrets inside the Golden Trio, and moving them from platonic to romantic isn't entirely outside the bounds of possibility. That's especially true when you consider that so many fans felt like Harry and Hermione should've been together in the end, while Hermione and Ron actually did.
