Jordan Peele Casts Steven Yeun In His Us Follow Up Movie

Jordan Peele casts Academy Award nominee Steven Yeun in his next film. Yeun has recently scored a nomination for Best Actor (becoming the first Asian-American to do so) for his portrayal of Jacob Yi in director Lee Isaac Chung's Minari, which has earned six Oscar nominations in total, including Best Picture. He is also known for his role as Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead for the first six seasons of the show and has earned acclaim for films like Burning and Okja.

Peele is still well known for his performances in sketch comedy such as Mad TV and Key & Peele, which he co-created alongside Keegan-Michael Key, but has since transitioned to producing and directing films and television series, including BlacKkKlansman, Hunters, and Lovecraft Country. He made his directorial debut with the horror film Get Out, winning Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars along with garnering nominations for directing and producing, and followed that up with the critically acclaimed Us, starring Lupita Nyong'o. Now, it looks like he has a new film project on the way.

According to Variety, Yeun is in negotiations to star in Peele's upcoming film that Peele will write, direct, and produce. Yeun will be joining Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya, who starred in Get Out and is up for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for Judas and the Black Messiah. Peele and Yeun have previously worked together on an episode of The Twilight Zone, which Peele executive produced and narrated. Like with Get Out and Us, Peele's upcoming movie is being kept secret with no details about anything regarding the film, but it is expected to be released on July 22, 2022, by Universal Pictures.

Yeun joining the cast of Peele's next movie continues to showcase Peele's push for diversity in his filmmaking. While Peele only has two films under his belt, he has established himself as a filmmaker striving to tell stories of inclusion with diverse characters as well as expanding representation with his production company Monkeypaw Productions. Yeun also continues to rise and establish himself as a leading man, joining Ali Wong to star in the television series Beef for Netflix and finishing production on the film adaption of the Tony-winning play The Humans, directed by writer Stephen Karam.

It will be exciting to find out what role Yeun will play in Peele's future film. Peele's last two movies have been horror films that highlighted social themes such as racism and classism and have both become critical and commercial successes. While no details outside of the cast have been released yet about the movie, it will certainly draw a lot of attention as to what will come next and fans of Yeun and Peele can rejoice in their upcoming collaboration.
