PS5 Tech Showcase Godfall Receives PS4 Rating From PEGI

Gearbox Software's Godfall will apparently lose its PlayStation 5 console exclusivity pretty soon, according to a PEGI rating listing. The game is not a first-party exclusive, so it may be expanding beyond PlayStation altogether. For right now, Godfall is reportedly coming to PlayStation 4 relatively soon.

Godfall has always had timed exclusivity with the PlayStation 5, which was expected to end sometime in May 2021. The PlayStation 5 launch title was a major technical showcase for the console. It was also available via PC. Godfall is not something that was built super specifically for Sony's new console, but it was assumed to be for the latest console generation. Now, evidence suggests the game also may not have been built specifically to run on all-new consoles altogether.

TwistedVoxel (via Eurogamer) noted a new PEGI rating for a PlayStation 4 version of Godfall. The listing was posted on April 23 and features the same rating and details of the original version of the game, which means the supposed new version will still be rated T for Teen in America. Godfall didn't really impress critics or players as reviews noted it was relatively uninspired and generic. The game didn't even manage to rank on sales charts when it launched, which is pretty noteworthy since it was part of only a handful of exclusive games on Sony's console at launch.

It's not clear if Godfall will also come to Xbox consoles, but it wouldn't be surprising given the PlayStation 5 exclusivity ends in May. It would be a bit odd if the timed exclusivity only brought it to Sony's last-gen console, but perhaps it was an intentional move to push players to buy a PS5. Perhaps this new port will help increase sales for the game, but if it does come out this summer, it will be going up against other games like Resident Evil Village and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Given Godfall was the first confirmed PlayStation 5 game, it is pretty surprising to see it now coming to a last-gen console. Whether or not it will be a massive step back in visuals or features remains to be seen, but it does pose the question of if other PlayStation 5 exclusives will come to PS4 too. Horizon: Forbidden West has already been confirmed for a PS4 release, but there are games like Demon's Souls that remain totally exclusive as of right now. It seems that cross-gen does benefit sales in some way as Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been crushing it on sales charts for months now, beating out PS4 exclusives like The Last of Us Part II. Perhaps Godfall will be the latest game to benefit from a multi-generation release.
