Milla Jovovich starred as an original character named Alice in the cinematic Resident Evil franchise that began in 2002. The series lasted for two trilogies and explored the deadly outbreak of the T-Virus that led to the end of the world and the rise of the undead that finally ended with 2016's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
With the Resident Evil cinematic franchise heading towards a new reboot with the upcoming Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, it's time to take a look back at the star of the original movies and explore some of Alice's evolving looks from the long-running franchise to see which of her cinematic costumes was the best.
9 She Wore A Few Different Medical Gowns Thanks To Umbrella's Ongoing Experiments
Resident Evil featured the evil machinations of the Umbrella Corporation, the creators of the T-Virus as well as a number of other lethal projects that ultimately were revealed to include Alice, whose mysterious origins were explored over the course of the franchise.
Alice was an unwilling test subject for Umbrella which saw her escape a few different research facilities with only the barely-there medical gowns on her back. She first appeared in the finale of Resident Evil in a gown before once again waking up in an even odder cut of the awkward outfit in Resident Evil: Retribution.
8 Alice Met Her Older Progenitor Alicia Marcus
2016's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter brought an end to the franchise after 14 years and six films, and featured a retconned look at the origins of Alice, the Red Queen AI, the T-Virus, and Umbrella Corporation that changed everything.
The development of the T-Virus was now revealed as an attempt at a cure for the progeria that affected young Alicia Marcus, daughter of Umbrella Corporation's founder and the basis for the Red Queen AI's design. Alice was revealed to be a clone of Alicia, who also appeared in her elderly form, played by Milla Jovovich in one of the wildest yet most conservative costumes of the franchise.
7 Project: Alice Scavenged Her Casual Battle Ready Outfit In Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Following her escape from Umbrella Academy's Hive facility located under Raccoon City in Resident Evil, Alice found herself in a city overtaken by the undead armed with only a shotgun and her trusty medical gown in 2004's Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
Thankfully Alice was able to find a hunting goods store and put together an outfit that looked like it was ready for the apocalypse. Her iconic costume from the first film was given a battle-ready makeover with a mesh dress and strategically ripped pants that failed to stand out like some of Alice's other wardrobe choices.
6 Alice Outfitted Her Army Of Clones In A Sleek Ninja Bodysuit For Resident Evil: Afterlife
After Alice discovered an entire facility filled with clones of her in the finale of 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction, fans were expecting big things from the return of the hit franchise. They likely weren't disappointed given Resident Evil: Afterlife's introduction of an army of ninja Alice clones.
The 2010 continuation of the franchise featured Alice's ninja army as they stormed Wesker's Umbrella facility in sleek bodysuits with molded chest pieces and dual katanas strapped to their backs. Unfortunately, this costume and the ninja army were all destroyed by Wesker's detonation of the facility.
5 Umbrella Provided Alice With An Advanced Tactical Bodysuit In Resident Evil: Retribution
2012's Resident Evil: Retribution brought Alice to a previously undisclosed Umbrella facility located underwater in Russia, where she again awoke in a medical gown before an advanced tactical bodysuit was provided for her. Alice was forced to escape the testing facility which featured outbreak simulations in different areas of the infected world all while wearing Umbrella's insignia.
This sleek form-fitting and heavily detailed outfit brought Alice into the superhero realm more than the development of her superpowers in earlier entries ever did, though it was abandoned along with the cliffhanger ending when The Final Chapter later arrived.
4 Resident Evil: The Final Chapter Introduced Alice's Last Post-Apocalyptic Rebellion Outfit
Alice returned to the Hive in Raccoon City for The Final Chapter which served as the culmination of the series' apocalyptic events, which was also reflected in Alice's new costume as the leader of the final rebellion against the forces of Umbrella and its horde of zombies.
Alice's outfit was similar to previous versions that featured the tactical vest/corset and the necessary straps, buckles, and holsters included in any dystopian wardrobe. One of the best additions to this costume was the tattered hooded cloak worn by Alice in the early moments of the film that perfectly fit the setting, though it only lasted for about half of the movie.
3 Alice Blended Her Post-Apocalyptic Outfit With The Sleek Ninja Bodysuit In Resident Evil: Afterlife
Alice and her army of ninja clones all wore the same outfit in the opening attack on Umbrella in Resident Evil: Afterlife, though Alice herself was able to escape their massacre by hitching aboard Wesker's doomed escape vehicle.
Alice of course survived, and further improved the form-fitting outfit by blending it with her previous post-apocalyptic look, though for a colder climate. This simplified the original post-apocalyptic outfit while upgrading the ninja look by pairing it with boots, the customary tactical vest, and a short-lived heavy Russian bomber jacket.
2 The First Resident Evil Featured The Debut Of Alice In Her Iconic Red Dress
Paul W.S. Anderson's original adaptation of the Resident Evil video game first introduced Alice as she woke up in the shower from a nasty fall, though as she recovered she found her iconic outfit laid out for her waiting on the bed.
The red asymmetrical top paired with the black shorts and boots may not seem like essential zombie fighting gear, but it became one of Alice's most well-known looks. She survived the horrors of the Hive better than any of the tactical-suited operatives alongside her, and she did it while looking fierce.
1 Her Post-Apocalyptic Outfit From Resident Evil: Extinction Was Both Fashionable And Functional
After the spread of the T-Virus led to an actual apocalypse, 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction saw Alice exploring the wastelands of the zombie-infected world alongside a small group of survivors while wearing the series best look that was both fashionable and fitting for the setting.
Milla Jovovich's own fashion line Jovovich-Hawk designed Alice's costume for Resident Evil: Extinction (and 2010's Afterlife) which accounted for the high-fashion look that was still built to function in the arid devastation of the undead world.
