Shang-Chi Toy Leaks Reveal Plot Details & Family Ties

Leaked toys for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings reveal new plot details and family ties to the Master of Kung Fu. The first decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was fairly criticized for the lack of diversity among its leading superheroes, and the introduction of Shang-Chi is one of many ways that Marvel Studios is attempting to avoid similar criticisms in Phase 4. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first MCU movie to be led by an Asian superhero, feature a prominently Asian cast, and be directed by an Asian director.

There is a lot of excitement for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings within the Marvel fandom. The film is expected to lean heavily into martial arts and will also feature the debut of the MCU's real Mandarin. Legendary actor Tony Leung plays the villainous Ten Rings leader opposite Simu Liu's new Marvel hero. Although the movie was originally supposed to be out by now, it has been delayed multiple times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This has left Marvel in a position where it could keep official details on the cast, characters, and plot to a minimum. With the film's release date growing closer, toy leaks continue to be the best source for information on the movie.

The first wave of Hasbro's Marvel Legends toy line for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has surfaced online, as it appears the toys have hit select store shelves. The images are now circulating from user obrienproject_ on Twitter (via Murphy's Multiverse) and provide plenty of new details about the movie. The description for Shang-Chi confirms he was raised by the Ten Rings Organization and now finds himself pulled back into that world by his father, Wenwu, a.k.a., Mandarin. Wenwu's figure shows what appears to be a new take on the Ten Rings concept. The figures also reveal Death Dealer's design and confirm Xialing will be included as Shang-Chi's estranged sister. Check out the images below:

These toys confirm some major familial connections will run throughout Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Shang-Chi being the son of the Mandarin is something fans speculated about for a long time, as it is a smart update from the comics to avoid the stereotypical Fu Manchu character. Meanwhile, the confirmation that Xialing, who will be played by Meng'er Zhang, is Shang-Chi's sister, adds another wrinkle to the plot. Shang-Chi's sister is traditionally named Fah Lo Suee in the comics, but it appears the MCU is making a slight change in that regard.

With this new information about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, it appears that family will play a big part in the movie. The toys also provide great looks at the character designs, but hopefully it won't be long before some official looks arrive. Marvel Studios recently gave Shang-Chi another delay, but the film's new September 2021 release date should be final no matter what. Now that the Black Widow marketing campaign is picking back up, that could be a good sign that the first Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings trailer or images could come soon. This way we can finally stop relying on toys for updates and information on the Phase 4 film.
