Charles Montgomery Burns prides himself on being the richest man in Springfield. Forbes even calculated his net worth once, estimating it to be a whopping $16.8 billion. Apart from being the boss of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, Mr. Burns owns more than 30 other properties in the city.
Burns is also the perfect villain as he does everything for his own benefit. Who can forget the time he tried to block sunlight so that residents could rely on the electricity he provided? Most fans are also aware that Burns rarely remembers Homer's name despite interacting with him frequently. However, some details about the character are easy to miss.
10 How Much He Weighs
Mr. Burns is so light that an ant once overpowered him when he tried to step on it and kill it. Apparently, he only weighs 36 lbs. (16.3293 kg). This detail comes out in the news when Mr. Burns is presumed dead after a landslide at a national park in Springfield.
Channel 6 anchorman Kent Brockman causally mentions that Burns was one of the victims. He doesn't appear too sad about it and neither do the residents. They are all more concerned about the state of the national park. This angers Burns who decides to buy every media outlet in the city.
9 How He Acquired His Wealth
There are varied explanations on the animated sitcom as to how Mr. Burns became so rich. The first explanation is that he inherited all of his family's wealth after all his siblings died.
It has also been suggested that he amassed his fortune through his germ warfare laboratory and later the nuclear power plant which he used to supply the whole of Springfield with electricity. Then there is the suggestion that he became wealthy after buying the rights to the song "White Christmas" which brings in millions of dollars each festive season.
8 He Is Left Handed
Ned Flanders once opens a store for the left-handed since he feels that most things are biased in favor of right-handed people. He calls it the Leftorium. At that time, Ned happens to be struggling financially and he hopes that his business will enable him to put his financial affairs back in order.
A jealous Homer Simpson hopes the store will fail but business booms instead. Among the many left-handed customers seen at the store is Mr. Burns, who happens to be buying a left-hand drive vehicle.
7 His Age
At times, Mr. Burns has been referred to as "Springfield's Oldest Resident." In Season 2's "Simpson and Delilah," Homer tables a proposal about the power plant to investors but they are less than impressed. When Burns calls him to his office to reprimand him, he bonds with him instead and shows him a scrapbook of his youth and tells him that he is 81 years old.
However, during the Springfield Pride Awards, Cornelius Chapman who is 108 is given the award for "Springfield's Oldest Man." He dies on stage so the award is passed down to Mr. Burns who apparently is 104. Burns once states that his driver's license expired way back in 1909, making him older than 104.
6 His Heritage
Mr. Burns is of Scottish and Austro-Hungarian descent. On one occasion, he wins the basketball team, the Austin Celtics, through a bet. He then renames it the Springfield Excitement.
His reign as the owner turns out to be very chaotic. He shoots the team's mascot, thinking it's a real gorilla. He also builds a major basketball stadium on a reserve meant to conserve bees. During games, he opts to sing the Austria-Hungary anthem instead of the American anthem. Unfortunately for him, the bees soon get their revenge.
5 His Net Worth On The Show
The Forbes calculations aside, what's his net worth on the show? Well, it's not possible to know that now, thanks to Season 20's "The Burns and the Bees." In the episode, Burns plays poker with fellows billionaires such as Mark Cuban, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg in the Billionaire Camp. At that time, he is said to be worth $1,800,037,022.
The villainous tycoon loses some of his fortune when his basketball stadium gets converted to a bee sanctuary. His net worth falls to $996,036,000, causing him to be demoted to the Millionaire Camp. He is deeply depressed about this and even asks fellow billionaires to kill him instead of taking him to the lower camp.
4 His Blood Type
Burns has always been portrayed as having plenty of health problems. He has a black heart that barely beats and his knee caps often need to be constantly repaired.
His condition gets worse after he gets diagnosed with "hypohemia," putting him in need of urgent blood donation, Homer volunteers to donate, hoping that the tycoon will reward him greatly once he gets better. Unfortunately for Homer, he is disqualified as a donor because he has Type A blood while Burns needs a Double-O-negative donor.
3 His Childhood Nickname
During one of his birthday parties, Burns becomes restless, insisting on his old teddy bear despite being given thousands of gifts. This is despite the fact that he threw the teddy bear away in 1957.
Apparently, Burns used to be the most jubilant child in the whole of America because of the teddy bear. He was so happy that his parents actually nicknamed him "Happy."
2 Archaic Phrases
Mr. Burns has a tendency of incorporating archaic phrases that are no longer being used in his speech. For example, he often refers to gas as petroleum distillate. He also refers to a car's accelerator and breaks as the velocitator and the deceleratrix.
He has also been heard calling a TV the picto-tube and a helicopter, the auto-gyro. He enjoys using the phrase "ahoy-hoy" when answering the phone because Alexander Graham Bell (the inventor of the telephone) suggested that "ahoy" should be used instead of the usual "Hello".
1 He Was Once Married
Mr. Burns often appears single and lonely but he has been engaged to three women in his lifetime. There was a policewoman named Gloria Jailbird, Jacqueline Bouvier, and Gertrude.
He tells Homer that he and Gertrude got married though he missed their wedding ceremony, their honeymoon, and even the divorce filing. All this because he was busy building his empire. He also dated a fellow student when he was at Yale and had a deadly affair with Countess von Zeppelin.
