TikTok creators now have a new Music Visualizer effect to play with. TikTok is not exactly short of effects that content creators can use to make unique and engaging content. By applying the Reverse effect, for example, creators can make a TikTok run backwards. However, with the popular service continuing to add new effects, content creators have even more ways to personalize their videos before making them live.
TikTok users have more than just effects to work with. The app also offers the option to Duet with other creators. This is where two videos appear side by side, allowing one creator to respond to another or emulate a trend. Besides effects and Duets, TikTok also recently added a Q&A feature as an additional way for creators and viewers to interact with each other. The Q&A feature allows users to comment on a creator’s video and mark it as a question, making it easy for the creator to see and respond to. Other new arrivals on the platform recently include Text-to-Speech and automatic captions, both of which look to improve accessibility.
The Music Visualizer effect is now available globally, according to TikTok. The effect uses greenscreen to change the background of a video. In this case, the background is a retro purple spacescape, including a grid-based surface and floating planets. TikTok explains that the effect employs real-time beat tracking to ensure the background moves in sync to whatever song is playing at the same time. Music duo Area21 used the effect for a teaser of their upcoming song and the video demonstrates how the grid lines rise and fall in time to the beat.
To get started with the new effect, open up the TikTok app and tap on the plus button to start filming. Then hit the Effects button, search for Music Visualizer, and then tap on the effect's icon to add it to the video. The song “La La La” by Area21 will automatically start playing, but the creator can change it to any available in the Sounds library. To do this, tap the music note at the top of the screen and then search for a song. Once found, tap on the song to add it to the video, and the Music Visualizer effect will respond accordingly.
With competitors like Snapchat Remixes and YouTube Shorts now available, it’s a smart move by TikTok to add a visually appealing, interactive effect right now. Not to mention, with music being such a central part of the TikTok experience, this effect is likely to be all the more impactful and popular with users. As long as TikTok keeps expanding and adding new features and effects like this, it is likely to continue to prove immensely popular, in spite of the growing competition.
