Yet another game-breaking glitch has been discovered in Call of Duty: Warzone, this time reducing the game’s frame rate to unplayable levels. Unfortunately, this will probably come as no surprise for fans of the massively popular battle royale title. To date, Warzone has had too many glitches and bugs to count on one hand, and Activision appears to be taking more of a reactionary approach to fixing them. In many cases, glitches are first noticed by streamers or regular players, shared, widely complained about, and then fixed or at least addressed in the following update.
What’s more problematic is the number of repeat glitches the game is now seeing. Several months ago, Warzone had an issue with players using helicopters to become invisible. This is separate from the glitch that allows players to fly helicopters underneath the map. Additionally, there was another bug from the game’s infancy that allowed players to use the stims indefinitely, which meant that they were able to survive in the game’s poison gas for much longer than intended. These glitches were eventually fixed by removing helicopters entirely. However, when helicopters returned to Warzone, the glitch resurfaced.
This new glitch, shown by Redditor eggybread_ (and explained by Dexerto) is unique in that it is at least new. If players equip the “Bullseye” reticle onto a weapon and pull the weapon out in-game, the frame rate now goes down to 1 fps and effectively renders the game unplayable. Interestingly enough, when a player is “downed” with this weapon active, they are able to change their class and continue to fire their equipped weapon, which they should not be able to do. Essentially, this means that players using the Bullseye reticle can still play the game normally even when they need to be revived, with the stipulation that they must crawl on the ground and wait to be brought back to life.
As of the time of this writing, the developers have not yet commented on this bug. It’s possible that it might not yet have been brought to their attention, which underlines the “reactionary” bug fixing mentioned earlier. However, the larger problem is that Activision released a mid-season patch a few days ago that was up to a staggering 133 GB on PC but failed to notice the abundance of new glitches and the return of old ones. At this rate, players might be better off waiting to play the game days after each new patch is released, as each new one seems to bring new issues but not too many new features.
When it’s functioning correctly, there is little doubt that Warzone is one of the best battle royale games available today. The map is large and varied, the recent integration with Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War means that there are even more weapons than before, and the core Call of Duty gameplay style is still as fun as its always been. However, all of this relies upon the game functioning correctly. Considering the number of hackers Warzone has as a free-to-play title, the least Activision can do is make sure that there are as few issues with the actual game as possible. Unfortunately, each large update lessens the player base’s faith that this will ever be the case.
