Warning: major spoilers ahead for Wonder Girl #1!
Every faction of Amazons wants Wonder Girl dead. Wonder Girl #1 has shown that Yara Flor is not exactly welcome among the Amazons, though she doesn't know it yet. There seems to be a larger Amazon conflict brewing — one that could pit the three factions against one another.
Future State featured the debut of Yara Flor, the Wonder Woman of the future. Within that event, Yara was being watched by two unknown women and was on the radar of Hippolyta, Nubia, and the other Amazons of Themyscira. Diana was also seen remarking with interest about what was happening involving Yara and the thought process of the Themyscira Amazons, before she ended up in Valhalla. Now, it appears that the conflict goes beyond Themyscira.
Created by Joëlle Jones, Wonder Girl #1 reveals that the Themyscira Amazons and the Amazons of Bana-Mighdall are keeping a close eye on Yara Flor. They aren't the only ones however. Even Mount Olympus seems to have cause for concern about Yara going back to Brazil, the land of her birth. A bad feeling is crossing Nubia, Hera, and Queen Faruka — and it all ties back to Yara returning home. Something is coming and the future Wonder Woman may signal the arrival of a larger threat to the Amazons of both Themyscira and Bana-Mighdall.
This series is providing the origin for Yara, since Future State predominantly focused on the part she will play in DC's possible future. She fights alongside the future Justice League as a member and has a partnership with Jon Kent when he is the predominant Superman on Earth. She is also seen leading the Brazilian Amazons and trying to save one of her warriors from the underworld. Otherwise, not much is known about Yara — or how she fits into the world of the other Amazons. The unknown women watching Yara in Future State could be representatives from any of the groups showing interest in her. The young hero is seeming like she is a threat, but why is not known.
Hera mentions activating a weapon, while Nubia mentions a need for diplomacy. Hera also mentions a plot involving the Amazons, which seems to have been planned for a long time. This is not a new conflict to her, though it could be for fans and certainly is for Yara, who is none the wiser about what her future holds. Bana-Mighdall is the most clear about the threat that Yara poses, saying without hesitation that if needed, Wonder Girl should be eliminated completely. Clearly, this young hero does not end up dead, since she takes up the Wonder Woman mantle. However, she could be the key to further alienating the factions of Amazons from one another —but she could also be instrumental in bridging the gaps that have grown between them. Either way, both known Amazon factions want to reach Yara first and they want her removed from the equation in one way or another. Wonder Girl has quite the challenge ahead of her, particularly since she hasn't even connected with her own Amazons yet.
